I dont understand math!

Can someone please explain factorials versus permutations to me in a way that MAKES SENSE? fucking teacher, fucking textbook, fucking notes dont help me at all. whenever i see the ! sign my mind goes blank. WHY IS THERE AN EXCLIMATION POINT IN MY MATH PROBLEM.
factorials are easy but then i see the ! and i dont know what to do. i cant keep anything in my fucking head! i hate teachers who give me tests with 15 days til graduation. thats lame lame lame.

the ! sign means that you multiply by all the other numbers from the number before the ! to 1. So if you see 9!, is means 9x8x7x6x5x4x3x2x1. Or you can just take the easy route and use your calculator. yeah i'm doing this unit too right now, I hate math. if you see (n+2)!, it just stands for (n+2)x(n+1)x(n)x(n-1) and so on.

a permutation is where you have two numbers:

the total number to choose from=n

and the number being choosen=r

it looks like this: n!/(n-r)!

you only use a permutation when the order is important like finishing first, second, third, etc.

a combination is the same thing only the order is not important it looks like: n!/(n-r)!r!

you use that when order isnt important

haha, precal. i dn't understand this stuff either. but my teacher is bad, and all we do is have squirt bottle(water) fights and play baseball with a yard stick and parper ball.

this is precal? my lord! my math class is called Nature of Mathematics, and 3 days a week we do stuff like permutations and "mathematical mosaics" and logs and all of that crap. then on the Fridays we fold! like, we literally take long skinny strips of paper and fold these massive 3-d polygons. theyre actually really cool looking.
the rest of the time we talk about how much we love our teachers son (girls school) and fuck around.
and i'm getting the second highest grade! yeha not being able to count!

hehe right now I have a 103.8 in alg 2/trig. my teacher is so easy! You get full credit just for basically trying and somewhat knowing what you are doing. then if you are half decent you can do the extra credit on his tests. that class is great for bumpin up my gpa

I don't understand the second one, Grete. Not translatable through my swedish knowledge..

Derivation sucks.
Geometry was fun in Junior High, but it got too hard in high school.


I didn't probably even pass my math finals, but I took 'em as voluntary, so it's no biggie. Good luck.

haha^. the two kids that sit next to me and i have set up a plan: we rotate who pays attention, so two of us can zone out and the other understands, so when we get to homework it is all fine and dandy. i still have a b, so it works great
