At camp this summer, every morning the diggers would repaint the rails so they would be smoother. Is there any kind of specail paint u should use? I got a rail and I want to make it a little smoother.

I thought the paint was to stop rusting, but i guess it would be for smoothness aswell, um i reckon an outside paint woud be good, sorry i dont know tech. paint names.

I haven't heard of that before, I too figured it was just to stop rusting, If your going with paint though make sure it oil based, outdoor and for on metal.
You can use wax too on top of the painted or not-painted rail, it helps.

it usually gets scraped off, so you probably dont need to worry about it

not paint, sand the rail down with a high grit sandpaper, then rub on curb wax, and then carburator cleaner or diesel fuel. That is what maked it super slick.

wd_40 works good as fug! the only problem is that it makes the bottum of your skies black where ever you slide on them.

if you put gas on it and light it, it works pretty well too. but, the rail smells like gas, as do your skis, boots, and bindings...so i guess that isnt reccomended...but um, paint dont make rails faster...sandeing them smooth does.

Just use curb wax or whatever skateboarders use for grinding too works. Candle wax is like the same thing anyways so just use that and it will work fine. and sand it too, to get the rust off
