^rebuilding it??? what are you talking about? they were building a completley new one. same idea, but larger, more guns/garrisons/fighter squadrons, better defense systems, and more technologically advanced than the first one.

on the star wars site that scratch? linked to they said that the outer layers would be like a planet cause of the buildings and stuff on the surface are oreiented and it would require less nrg as the places own gravity is helping. while the inner layers where oriented lateraly because they are affected less by the stations natural gravity this also makes sence with the ds 2 floors open to space cause they still have to build the outer layers.
another interesting thing is that to blow up a planet the deathstar would require 10000 times its own mass transformed into pure energy.
