So I started building this computer with the help of my friend who turned out to be there not as much as I would have liked and now I am running into serious problems. I have to SATA hard drives that I want to raid as RAID0. When the XP instlation cd boots up there is a message that says "press f6 if you need to instal third party drivers for raid." I press f6 but nothing happens. Then it says that there is no mass storage device on my computer. The one time I got the driver to kinda work it still wouldn't copy any of the files from the cd to the hard drive. I think that I have some problem with my hard drives but no really sure. I really really need help because my friend kinda bailed on me.

ok heres what you do. first, you find your friend, and drop kick him to the balls for bailing on you. then, you tie him to a chair and proceed to beat him with the various parts of the computer (those circuitboards are daaaaaamn sharp, you'd be surprised). then go fucking buy a computer thats already put together. its a lot easier. either that or get your friend do to it after you beat him.

What is the model of the raid controller you're using and is it on-board or not?
The first thing is that you should NEVER use raid0 for an operating system disk and should hardly ever use raid0 at all. Despite that you're gaining a slight (and I mean slight b/c unless your card is seperate from the mobo and is true hardware raid...no cpu cycles for write divisions, XORs, etc.) speed boost in writing to two disks instead of one.
If you use raid0 on your machine with your operating system, be careful b/c a disk going pthththe means your system goes pthththe. If you're really concerned, get another disk, run that as the OS, and then raid1 the two sata disks for data. I could go on, but I don't wanna talk for hours.
TRY THIS:
There's a very good chance that you haven't created the array. Within the bios of your computer (or an external bios that boots up right after the mobo bios boots) you need to first create the array and let the bios know about it.
I don't mess with on-board raid, but boot up the machine and watch for anything raid. It will normally list the disks that're attached and customarily tell you to hit Ctrl-H to get into the bios. Once you're in, create the array (this sometimes takes a while depending on card, size of drives, etc.), reboot, THEN, install windows.
The reason you're not seeing the disk is b/c your raid controller doesn't know it has a legitimate storage unit on there. After you create the raid array in the bios, it will tell the mobo bios that there's a legitimate disk attached, and then your install should go along fine.
I hate to say this, but rtfm. A lot of the times manuals for computer parts that aren't customarily for the average user are horrible b/c they already assume some knowledge, but they always help.
Lemme know if that works for you b/c i can almost guarantee that's your problem.

ya and pay and extra $500 jsut for some stupid company to assemble it and not make it as fast as alll the parts could be. you can build a machine with some of the fasted and most advanced parts for $600 less than what it would cost to have it just shipped to you pre assembled.
its not that hard if you dont try and do raid, and even then its till not hard.
WTF do you need raid for anyway if you only have 1 drive you dont need extra ports for no existing drives. raid is another way to add extra HDD to ur system when the main 2 are used.

i got a problem too. some of my programs take a fucking long time to open. for example, the C drive, paint, photoshop, just regular programs that don't require the internet. once they're opened they're pretty much back to normal, it just takes like 30 seconds to open my C drive and whatnot. it's not spyware or a virus either because i have all sorts of crap, titanium antivirus, spyware doctor, ad-aware se... what's goin on?

interesting, but it only happens with a couple programs, and it's only been happening lately. it started like 4 or 5 days ago, just out of the blue

* Variants. The following variants have been observed but generally carry no payload: WM97/Ded-K; WM97/Myna-AY; WM97/Myna-AZ; WM97/Myna-BA; WM97/Goodday-C
* WM97/Footer-AB. Basically, this Word macro virus creates two files in the root directory; each is a copy of the virus: FOOTER.$$$ and FOOTER.$$1.
* WM97/Marker-FP. A Marker variant that changes username to "JonMMx2000", user initials to "MeMeX" and user address to "JonMMx2000@yahoo.com". Each Monday the virus will create the harmless poetry file JOH.HTML in the Windows directory.
* WM97/Marker-JP. A Marker variant with bugs in the code. 33% of the time the document title could be changed to "Ethan Frome."
* WM97/Marker-JQ. A Marker variant with bugs in the code. 33% of the time the document title could be changed to "Ethan Frome."
* WM97/Marker-JT. A Marker variant with bugs in the code. 33% of the time the document title could be changed to "Ethan Frome."
* WM97/Thus-FB. A Thus variant that displays a message on the 12th of any month: "It's TOO much violence in this world! Have MOT to stop it!".
* WM97/Wrench-Q and WM97/Wrench-T. A Wrench variant which drops the virus code ASCII.VXD in the root directory. When run, if you attempt to open the VB Editor, change the document font, or print the document the Office Assistant will pop up.
* XM97/Divi-AN. A Divi variant that uses BOOK1.XLS in XLSTART to spread.
* XM97/Divi-R. A Divi variant that uses BOOK1.XLS in XLSTART to spread.
* XM97/Laroux-OH. A Laroux variant. The viral macros are AUTO_OPEN and CK_FILES (I object strongly to the latter!). These macros are inserted into RESULTS.XLS in the XLSTART folder.
* XM97/Slacker-E. A defective Excel macro virus whose payload would create .DLL files with random names in various locations. The payload is never called, however so all the virus does is replicate.

not sure if this will fix your prob but i would suggest going to your motherboard manufacturers website and d-loading the latest bios and flashing them...at worst you'll have the latest bios and at best i will fix your prob with the raid driver install

why do you need RAID anyway? redundant HD's? for WHAT? your porn collection?
Just set it up as 2 separate HD's. Although it theoretically can happen, I've NEVER heard of a HD dying, unless it was abused.

you need to load your sata/raid controller drivers from a floppy.
