The Colorado Trail

Has anyone ever hiked the colorado trail? I just read an article in National Geographic Adventure about it. 468 miles form Denver to Durango with much of it above the treeline. I think I might do it summer 06.

i've gone from the trail head in denver to leadville...it was super fun!

if you plan to do the whole thing it'll take a couple weeks probably unless you are hauling ass

Yeah I was thinking it would take maybe 6 weeks assuming a little more than 10 miles per day on average

depending on how fit you are im sure you could average more than 10 miles per day. i worked in glacier national park last summer and we would sometimes start 20+ mile hikes in the afternoon and be done before night. granted they usually weren't multiple day trips but there was usually significant elevation change.

Oh man! I want to work there so bad! I applied this year but they never called me back. Maybe next summer....if I'm not hiking the Colorado trail.

where did you apply at? there are a ton of jobs out there. i'm 22 and no joke it was the best summer of my life. if you love the outdoors, get out there!

I heard the trail has parts that arn't complete yet, unless I'm thinking of the Rocky mountain trail, is there a difference? As far as mileage goes that totally depends on how good of shape you're in also how much weight you are carrying. I've found with a pack loaded for a 2-3 day trip I can do 2.5-3.5 miles per hour, uphill at elevation, but with a pack loaded for a big trip maybe 1-2 mph

I applied with the National Park Service to be a visiter use assistant and a couple other positions. Where are some other places to work? Lodges or what?

I think that there is a Continental Divide Trail that is different because the same magazine had an article about it a few months back.

Its not the best place to work cause they basically have a monopoly on the place, but Glacier Park Inc owns like 6 lodges up there. go to gpihr.com to check that out. there are also several rafting companies and such that you should check out. i can't remember all of their names but glacier park boat company is one you could hit up.
