Although I haven't tried the ARV's, My dad has Karmas and I have tried them. They are pretty stiff and are awesome for all mountain skiing. When I say the ARV's, they seemed a lot wider. I dont know if that is true though.
Bottom line is, You can't go wrong with either.

Karma's are a pretty stiff allmountain ski. Does well in powder, but not so great in the park.
ARV's are a little bit softer, great in the powder and can be used in the park with ease.
Either way you can't go wrong, I'd get the cheaper one.

I love my arv's. Great in the pow and in the park. Not all that soft for all mountain either. You can find them super cheap on ebay and ect too.

^Yep... only quite a bit lighter than SPs. I'd go for ARVs.

karmas are rediculous. they are a great ski everywhere. the arv is nice too, i wouldnt worry to much about your choice. the karmas seem pretty bombproof though.

well clrealy i ride the Karma, i love em for pow park all mountian, if ur looking for pow it is awsomely great as well as all mountain, but i think the shine in the park, they give u that extra pop u want, it basicly just throws u like nothing it is an awsome ski

if ur lookin for that def. the karmas they improved in that they actually have a thin metal strip bellow the top sheet so it cuts down on gashs to the top sheet, plus if ur lookin to do a lil hike with em that have this nice sand paper texture on the top easy to grip

The metal sheet you mention and grip tape stuff makes no difference to the way they ski.The ARV holds a better edge and definately can be thrown around easier with a better end result

^ the guy said tougher as in which one can u ski hard and not be that banged up, and the karma cuts down on the cosmetic damage to ur skis

karma, i apologise to u then. I was refering to the way they skied rather than how the topsheets etc hold up. The new ARV's are sweet and I havent had any probs with topsheet or the way they hold up. I have skied both and have to say ARV all the way.

i havent skiied either, so a lot of you are just going to automatically devalue my opinion, but how on earth can the arv's hold an edge better than the karmas? the karmas have a sheet of metal, making them much more torsionally stiff, and in most cases, that translates to better edge hold.

karmas. i got mine this year and i love em. the only i wish i could change a bit is they are kinda stiff. if they were more flexy they would be the dankest skis. both of em are sweet though.
