Help with Filming

This winter I started to get interested in filming skiers. I have only used this small video recorder. I really want to get some better equipment this year for filming, but that isn't too expensive. Can anyone help me with some suggestions?

1. Learn the concept of exposure, fps (frames per second) and whatnot

2. Buy yourself a 3CCD camera ($1,700 - $4,000)

So the I should probably take the phtograhy class in school next year, since there is no class for filming.

hmmm, it would help. I've never taken any classes cause our schools are gay, but yeah just learn what all those things mean, and how to use them. then start saving.

you can get a 3 chip camera for much cheaper than 1,700. panasonic has a line of 3 chips for pretty cheap. but anyways having a 3 chip doesnt make u a good filmer. u need to know how to use your camera. so learn everything about it. white balance, shutter speed. just learn it all.

^very true, but the Canon/Sony ones are farther up there in price.

^ive learned the hard way. just dont tape over old tapes, because u will need it for something when u least expect it. and always label your tapes

word, definitely label all tapes IMMEDIATELY and keep them no matter what.
plus, i never tape anything semi-important over used tape anyway, because im pretty sure the quality goes down.

Its not filming unless your shooting on film, 8mm,16mm,super16,ect...

Yet the panasonic ag-dvx100a is a sickkkk 24p cam

when you get a camera make sure you get a lens kit and a wide angle lens. Wide angle lenses help out alot.

u do not need a 1700$ cam to film stuff, especially if youre just starting out. if you want something budget minded, get a digital 8 camera so you can hook it up to your computer to edit film footage. also experiment with different angles, dont spend too much time zooming it just ruins footage unless done right. if youre only going to be filming skiing then dont worry about sound too much because u'll probably put music over it anyway. just look at the lighting and use that to help enhance the footage- the light is what makes it good.

yeah theyre not too expensive, definatly check into the sony models- they have tons of really cool features on them for a good price and high quality video

all what you need at first time - any brand minidv(about 700-1000) camera, but not digital8, if you got minidv you can easyly capture your video to pc and then edit in any video editor, with d8 camera you will have to buy an expensive card to capture video from camera, also i dont advice you to buy any dvd hdd or other mpeg4-writing cameras, the quality of the picture(only if this isnt an expensive cam) is very poor.

Instead of having 1 CCD chip to sensor all three color values, Red, Green, and Blue, it has 3 seperate chips, each assigned for each color value, thus attaining better colors.

the entire image quality goes up as a result.
i dont want to say that it triples your resolution, because it obviously doesnt, but the jump in image quality is astounding.

so check it. if you are using a DV camera. use the same brand tape. because the lubricants mixed together make bad things happen

you can get a vx2100 for like 950 and a hdr-fx1 for like 1050. both are pretty much the best prosumer (proffesional/consumer) cams you can get. both retail at 3000 and 3700 respectively.
