To buy or not to buy? That is the question.

ok. Heres the deal. I have the money to buy skis this year, but I am considering whether it is worth it or not. I will only get 1 week on the snow this year, the same goes for the next 2 years probably. In the 2005/2006 (shit that sounds fuck ages away doesnt it!) I will probably be able to ski a whole season for the first time, and so I may well want to buy new skis at that time. So if I were to buy skis this year, in 3 years I would probably want new ones.
So, putting aside your overwhelming skiing addictions, do you tihnk it is actually worth me buying skis now, if i will only ride them for no more than 5 weeks in 3 years? Ofcourse there is the intrinsic wonder of actually owning your skis and not renting them, u know wot i mean, just *having* them. I dont know if this is reason enough to spend loads of money on skis though...So wot do u all think? do i buy, or do i wait?!?!? Also, if i bought skis this year and wanted to sell them in 3 years after they havent been used much and would be in good condition, do u think i could sell them easily or not?
While im here i may aswell give you my options that i can buy. Sorry the prices are in sterling so ive converted them at the current exchange rate into dollars for u all. So here they are:
1080s + 1080 bindings: £360 / $557
Scratch FS + FS bindings: £375.00 / $580
K2 Enemy + M1400FreeW bindings: £425 / $657
VPro + bindings: £430 / $665
Vlegend + bindings: £390 / $603
so those are pretty much my choices. Im 5ft11, 143lbs and Will probly be riding perhaps 30% on piste, 50% off piste, 20% park, or something like that, i dunno. Sorry bout the huge post, but what do u think about it all? wot should i do?!?!
thanks guys.

Being Irish, I guess I should resent the Notre Dame nickname 'The Fighting Irish.' After all, how long do you think nicknames like 'The Bargaining Jews' or 'The Murdering Italians' would last? Only the Ironic Irish could be so naively honset. I get the feeling that Notre Dame came real close to naming itself 'The Fuckin Drunken, Thick-Skulled, Brawling, Short-Dicked Irish'

5 weeks? hell no dont buy skis now, seriosuly, wait until you get into it for real, just buy a ski movie or two each year, then buy skis whenever you can ski a whole season

dude i know what your saying makes total sense and ure right dude. It sucks that I only get one week holiday at a suitable time of yea, each year, to go skiing. Fucking school. I totally love skiing its the greatest thing in the world but im restricted cuz of school, nothing else. Well i guess because every trip to a ski resort has to be a major holiday (i live in england you see, nowhere to ski :/ )
dude i dunno y im saying this cuz it doesnt make any difference to anything really does it. Just I wish i could ski more than fucking once a year. You can not imagine what its like, with u all getting to ski solidly for 4 months. Its torture dude. im wasting my time fuck this im out.

i dunno i might buy some, cause i mean it would save you renting for a week, which you will prolly recover the cost of the skiis eventually...

buy skis but not brand new skis. get some old twins at a aki swap or make your own for dirt cheap that way you can ski all you want. and still have money to buy come kick ass skis in 2005

yea, money is not an object here really. I could afford a new pair of skis every year if i worked and shit. So take that into account in giving your opinions on if i shoudl buy or not.

First, don't abuse Shakespeare when raising an essentially mainingless issue. Second, buy yourself a new pair of skis. Especially when you are not skiing a lot of days, you wanna take full advantage of the few days you get by skiing with equipment you trust. It's well worth it and I agree with whoever said you might not live long enough/or your plans might otherwise change, so you won't see the day that you are anticipating.

Get Lines, not 1080's. Salomon has the worst warranty of any ski company out there, and line being probably the best. If you ever broke 1080's, you're pretty much screwed. I can't really tell you when to get them, though. It's up to you.

Go with a cheaper ski like the Line Maverick. I bet if you added up all those rental days you would save in the long run.

sim, there is no way id save money. Like i sed id probly only use them for 3 years. I can rent dkis at £50 a week, so 3 weeks at £150 is cheaper that £350 for skis to buy
