What's a PAL

PAL is the European version of like NTSC i believe. like when you buy a videogame system in Europe you have to buy a different model with a different setup because the US model is made in NTSC, and PAL is the European version. its with television and shit, im sure it costs more cause it's formatted differently.

if you are an aspiring independent film maker PAL offers enhanced 24 and 30p modes but is more expensive and requires different cables and stuff i think

NTSC: Short for National Television System Committee. The NTSC is responsible for setting television and video standards in the United States (in Europe and the rest of the world, the dominant television standards are PAL and SECAM). The NTSC standard for television defines a composite video signal with a refresh rate of 60 half-frames (interlaced) per second. Each frame contains 525 lines and can contain 16 million different colors

PAL:Short for Phase Alternating Line, the dominant television standard in Europe. The United States uses a different standard, NTSC. Whereas NTSC delivers 525 lines of resolution at 60 half-frames per second, PAL delivers 625 lines at 50 half-frames per second. Many video adapters that enable computer monitors to be used as television screens support both NTSC and PAL signals

if you try and convert the two formats they come out looking really bad, big digital lines and really pixilated. but PAL should work fine I think as long as everything you do is PAL... but yes I'd go NTSC if you can.

yea you cant combine them. if you live in the US dont work with PAL period. its sort of just like a mac and pc dont mix well. just work with NTSC its what any store in the US would sell you.

You probably should go with NTSC if your American and not an advanced filmmaker. The PAL framerate is something like 25 fps, while NTSC is about 30 fps (29.97 actually). This means that if you want to convert a video project to film, to view in a theater for example, there would be fewer dropped frame (film is 24 fps). Some people also like the look of PAL, which is more like film, as the frame rate is closer.
