TJ Schiller And Tanner Hall

How come whenever they do pipe they use the thall pros and whenever they do slopestyle they use the AR5's. Shouldn't it be the other way around because they thalls are better in the park and they have rounded edges for rails? I have always been curious about that.

rounded edges for rails is a gimmic. it's something you don't really need. and the t-halls are a little softer, and t-hall and tj probably perfer the softer flex in the pipe. who cares?

He obviously cares because he made a thread about it and it was a legit question.

I honestly could not tell you, but I can assure you that the T-Hall pros Tanner and TJ ride in the pipe do not have rounded edges.

The rounded edges are not a gimmick, it just basically saves you the time when you naturally round your edges on rails. Who hasn't taken a fresh pair of tuned skis out, tried to slide a rail, hooked and edge and died? I have friends who after buying a pair of skis will immediately de-tune them so their edges don't catch like that. I would also assume the rounded edge puts a lot less stress on your edges when sliding rails, probably a good thing if you want to keep them intact. It keeps it smooooth.

sharper edges cause more friction with the rail, which means its not only easier to catch an edge but also to cause edge cracks. always a good idea to detune the edges on skis after you buy them if you plan on doing rails.

more than likely they're not riding the actual tanner pro's - they're riding AR5s with the t-hall topsheet. it's purely for marketing purposes

^ wrong armada doesn't employ the large company marketing strategies. They are the cool unadvertised brand remember.
Tj and Tanner choose it because it makes more contact with the pipe with the flex pattern.
More specifically they use next years b/c it has a stiffer tail with more pop while being extrememly soft up front and making contact through the transitions.
The detuned edges don't matter they carve like a dream and you can't even tell with your eye or your finger so shut up about it.

^^whoever says armada is unadvertised has obviously never picked up a ski magazine. armada advertises just as much as other major companies but it might not seem like it cause there is a small demographic they r trying to reach. armada is in it to make money just like everyone else.

they might be riding next years t-halls wich are a pipe specific ski, and for slopestyle u don't reeley want butter edges IMO

if thalls are being ridden in pipe if must be stiffer then this year because A no one in there right mind goes into pipe with dull edges
And B soft skis are hard to carve in an icy pipe.

the "dulled" edges of the pro model are only rounded under foot, which has absolutely no effect on your ability to carve, because on you dont hook up the section underfoot on any ski. in fact, race skis have risers for this exact purpose, getting the dead spot underfoot to hook up.

the skis we see in comps are probably protoypes with blank black topsheets. we're probably just mistaking those for the thall pro model which is mostly black.

ok i have the t halls and can definatly say that the would suck in the pipe. they suck at carving on a regualar slope let alone a icey pipe
and yes the rouned edges do affect carving

all these posts and nobody answered the guy's question. i have no idea either. maybe for advertising purposes. the probably sport the t-halls in the pipe cause they know that's where all the popular shots are taken and little kids will go buy the skis they see the pros use. as for the slope comp, they just use what will perform the best i suppose.

maybe its cuz a stiffer ski is better for jumps, easier to come up with a landing, i dont think it relates to the rounded edges on the THall. Just like Line riders are using Chronics at slopestyle and big air but not the much softer invaders? i am probably wrong but whatev.

That does not sound right. There is no reason for that and its Armada you would atleast like to think they are honest. Plus they would just use those in slopestyle then. No that just does not make sense.

Actually, it would, simply because Armada wants T-hall and other prime riders to show off as much product as possible, especially in major events like winter X. However, I don't think that's quite the answer.

eh, i just say it because over the summer when they were figuring graphics out, i went over to buy some shirts and they had a pair of the new t-halls, but they were just AR5s with the t-hall topsheet on them. so they do actually do that, which is why i didn't think it a stretch that they would do that for pure marketing purposes (cause come on, a comp, aside from being an awesome spectacle of the sport, is just one big commercial).
and, let's face it, we all know by merely flexing the t-halls that they are by no means a pipe ski at all.

and to the guy that said next season's will be stiffer and have a "race base" - they're gonna be the same flex they are this season, maybe tweaked a little, with a new topsheet.

jib tech, where is the love? i work at one of the first four shops to carry armada in 03, i was talkin to the rep he was tellin me about next yeares thall but the jackamo is right. tanner was ridin the old ar5 with a thall topsheet this summer cause the ski was still in r&d. this year though be was not rockin the ar5 with a new topsheet but the new thall. and dont be a jerk jibtech

I think the problem is that you just don't really ski. If you are really giving her into a turn and are on hard snow and you have dull edges, you woill notice the difference. WHen my skis get rounded edges, they are so shitty outside of the park. Try taking a razor sharp pair of skis intot and icy pipe, will be so much better that T-Halls.
