Its because we all are a little conservative in a way. The church doesn't have the same power in the middle ages, but we keep them as a habit.
Sex is still considered by our society a sinful act.I say thats bullshit because sex is a part of life. God has given us the power of enjoying it. So why not?

i would like to add, I agree that it shouldn't be scorned and viewed by society as "wrong" for girls. but I also think it's a little weird for parents to encourage it. I mean, did your mom say "I think that you should be playing with your dinky more often."?
