DRINKING AGE

whast goin on? im doing a reserch paper on how the drinking age should be lowered to 18. i belive it should be lowered for the following reasons:

1)if you are 18 you can be drafted and go to war and die for your country, but you cant drink

2)if the drinking age were lowered then many teenagers would drink more responsibly because they wouldnt use drinking as a way to rebell against the law

3)also i belive that not near as many teenagers would get a DUI or drive while intoxicated

4)the government would make alot of money off the taxes which would help the united states

5)and last not near as many teenagers would get drinking tickets...which in my personal idea are a waste of time!

is a bigger deal i nthe states, but underage drinking parties will happen no matter what, why waste cops on busting teenagers drinkign when they could be stopping murders and such. Look at quebec and england and france. Drinking hasn't really negatively affected those palce too much. I think everyone needs to get drunk sometimes or go out and party it up with friends. After you vote, you should be able to go otu and have a beer after. If you are goign to go off to war, you should be able to have a beer before you go.

in Norway and most of Scandinavia the age is 18. ANd its def not any more drunking violence here that in other countries..so i dont understand wy US would have it to 21 =S

I agree with #1. Its true, you can die for your country but you can't drink.

I just can't agree with"also i belive that not near as many teenagers would get a DUI or drive while intoxicated". Actually there is an increase in DUIs because the 18-21 categorie is considered irresponsible.

I live in Quebec, the drinking age here is 18. The most DUIs are between 18-21.
Try and counter the argument of "body deformities" because the body can't process correctly the alcool.

incorrect. they will drink regardless.

incorrect. they would then be able to go out to the bars and clubs if drinking age was 18, and would need a way to get there. people are cheap and often dont like to taxi, and not everyone dd's, so people will drive drunk. believe me, 5 minutes away from me in hull, the drinking age is 18, and people drive drunk alot to get home to ottawa, where the drinking age is actually 19.

people have fakes, or get other people to buy them alcohol. yea, if the drinking age was lower drinking would increase a bit, so there is some truth to that statement, but not as much as you'd think.

and i agree with your other points. and i know what im talking about too, im in the midst of thsi debate myself because im 18, cant legally drink in my home city, but only have to drive a short distance to do so.

yeah ,I have to admit, teenagers are very irresponsible when it comes to DUI. As much as we try to deny it, we don't have enough lfie experience to make educated/responsible decisions when it coems to most things.

the reason i belive less teenagers would get duis or drive drunk is because i have gotten a DUI luckly i got it droped but the reason i got one was because i went to a party and got drunk and ended up not staying there and i knew i shouldnt drive but i wasnt about to call my parents because its illeagle to drink and my parents would have killed me if i'd called them so i was scared to call them to come get me even though now i know i should have and if the drinking age were 18 and i ever went to a party now i would call to have someone come get me.....this is my personal opinon and expericence

if you are 21, you can have about 3 drinks on an empty stomach and not get nailed for a dui, blood alcohol levels below .08 percent are legal. so, it would be less likely for teenagers to get dui's, as long as you don't go drink a case of beer or a bottle of liquour. the reason that the government is hesitant to change the age from 21 to 18 is because of the age of people that 18 year olds hang out with compared to 21 year olds. if you are 16 or 15 and in high school, think of how many kids you hang out with (at least 1 or 2) who are 18. now think of the kids that you hang out with who are 21. i am willing to bet that 90% of people will say zero. the law is trying to keep alcohol out of the hands of younger highschool kids.

It was at 18 here like 20 years ago. A officer just came in and told us about it and seeing his first fatal car accident, went into major detail about it too, very knar.

i agree 100% dude, but where i live the drinking age is 19, and i'm 19, so i couldn't care less at this point. but yeah man, if you can drive, go to war, vote for somebody to represent your country, you should be able to drink an alcoholic beverage.

If someone in your government wants to re-enstate a draft, not only will they fail, but it doesn't change the fact that you don't have a draft right now therefore you cannot be forced to fight in a war against your will. Furthermore, if you don't want to fight in a war that your country is involved in, don't join the army.

Eell, obviously there was a draft, and maybe there are people who would like to see another draft, but i don't think they will succeed at this. It's just that presently I think the point about being able to get drafted and die in war weakens the argument because there is currently no draft and we live in the present, not the past or the future.

The 'argument' about the draft is a reference to one of the points whoever started this thread was trying to make, and personally I have no problem with the drinking where I live (Ottawa-19), because it's easy enough to get booze when you need it.

in germany its' 16 for beer and 18 for hard liquor,but they 've been doing that shit forever and they're more responsible about it, plus there is harder sentencing and much heavier fines.

in bc (which is where i live) it's 19 and in alberta it's 18. i wish it was 18 here, but i can't do anything about it cause i can't vote yet (i'm 16). but as for the drinking and driving stuff u guys are talking about, i dunno about where u live, but here teenages are more responsible about using dd's than adults cause it's been drilled into our heads for so long.

I definitely don't agree with the drinking and driving argument. As other people have said, the drinking age in alberta is 18, and we have a huge drinking and driving problem.
