who uses race boots

ok i just bought a pair of rossi race ones, they were only 160 so i couldnt go wrong and they were in the box, anyway who here uses race boots, to me they felt better than rossi freerides and supposedly last onger becasue of the harder plastic used in race boots, anyway let me know wut ur experiences have been using race boots for park and all around skiing.

Its a hell of a lot harder to land jumps, they are really unforgiving, plus they are pbly high cuff, which sucks ass. But they will do fine if they are a slalom race boot, not gs

when i was a young idiot i wore race boots because i didnt know any better. recently i got some salomon x scream 7s and the difference is amazing, but i guess its all personal preference.

i use a pair of dolomite race boots. they work fine for freestyle. to keep them forgiving buckle the boot a little looser so when you land it dosent hurt. but dont make them too loose or theyll fall off your feet.

race boots are getting softer though, a lot softer than they used to be thats for sure. nowadays racers want there boot to bind, i use a lange worldcup boot and you don't get anymore race stock than that and i hate skiing in freeride boots, i need a boot that doesn't give so much, it helps a lot for just ripping up the slopes i think, but thats just my personal opinion

They should be fine. It wil be a little harder to ride rails or land fakie, but that's about it.

well they are a junior race boot so they arent as stiff as a mens boots and really they flex maybe 1 cm less than mens freerides so i think theyll be fine but ill let u knwo how i like them, if i dont i can sell them and probably make a profit any way hahah

im on lange L10 race and have been for years, they haven't seemed to hold me up. It helps if you arent a lightweight, plus when you aren't skiing the park they rip.

i got x wave 8's, since the 1080 doesn't come in my size, my feet are a us 13. They fit really nice so that is the main thing, they hurt sometimes on landings but i got get over it and ride!

when you're used to a race boot hoping out of something that stiff and into a Line boot is just...odd. feels like you're going to fall out of your boots. MAJOR shin bang jibbing with race boots though. just a warning.

i used race boots cuz i had no money to buy new boots and i used to race, and they gave me shin bang, so i used my little sisters boot, but they where to small and soft and the main reason why i broke my ancle.. would of helped if i buckled them up i guess, now im gonna invest in the 1080 boots

i used to get shin bng with my old pos san marcos and that was beczu i though they wernt stiff enoungh, so wut exactly causes shing bang?, the boot not flexing when your shin comes in contact with the front of the boot, i dont get it cuz myold boots flexd like hell when u hit the boot o landings

Are the x-wave 8s the same as the 1080 boot? They felt so similar to the 1080 when I tried em on.

Plus they are the same retail price.

yeah i was looking around at the X-wave 8 and 1080 and the 1080 has a 75 flex and the X-8 a 85. also you should note that the 1080 has a shock abosorbign footbed that cushions jumps.

but...i mean to give you an idea what i might do is buy the X-Wave 10 which comes at the same price as the X-8 (the X-10's come with the shock abosorption and more feature and adjustments) and if they're too stiff you can just get a good ski shop to make it softer for you.

Actually the 1080s are at a stiff index of 85, all the sites are wrong. It says 85 on the back of the boots.

Yeah I forgot about those silicon inserts under the foot.

I have been skiing on race boots for jibbing and all around skiing for over 5 years. I Had the Nordica world cup soft set on GS so the flex index was 110. I had Footloose in mammoth cut out a little bit of the shell on the sides so the flex was a touch softer. They worked sweet. Last year I was on the Tecnica ICON Carbon I did not have to cut that shell, In fact I was over flexing it even though I had it set up as stiff as it went. This year I am trying the lange Banshee 110. But along with the flexing issue I am 6'2' and 200 lbs

wasnt that long ago everyone was in race boots. The difference gear makes is over rated - that goes for skis as well. A good skier will still rip in shitty rental gear and a crap skier wil still suck no matter what he buys. The ones bitching about their gear on the hill are usually the ones that are looking for excuses as to why they are crap.

If you guys are stoked on your race boots, but don't like the whole shin bang thing go to www.skimetrix.com, they make this thing called the BOOSTER strap, which I am sure some of you have heard about. It is a heavy duty double, or tripple, elastic strap that repalces the factory one, exceot it fits inbetween the shell and the liner so when you tighten it up it fits more to your shin instead of the shell. I really sugget them, the only problem is that they are a pain in the ass compared to simple velcro, but they are soooo worth it. They are fairly cheap too, considering the price of all your other gear and most shops will mount them for you, or you can do it yourself. If you purchase, don't be afraid to say that Erich Kunz sent you.

Booster Straps are deffinately a plus. instaprint also makes an insert to help fill the shin of the boot to so your leg doesn't move back and forth, but if you a liner that fits and booster straps you don't need them. Shin bang is actually caused by landing backseat not by slamming your shins into the front of the boot. your leg muscles on you r shin over streach when you lean back. that is also when your toes hit the front of your boot

Jared: Gear does matter. An expert skier (say Thovex or Mosley) would probably rip the bindings out of beginner rental gear. Similarly, a beginner isn't going to be able to flex a GS ski. The reason why we have different grades of flex for skis and boots is because different people have different needs. For example, this year I'm going to be telemarking on old (but never mounted) Line Dragons with Scarpa Terminator boots. Why? Because 1)I'm big (6'4, 180, sz15) 2)telemarking generally uses a longer ski, 3)I like going fast, and 4)I've been skiing for 14 or so years (with a 4 year break to snowboard). If I tried to telemark on some old 720's with a Scarpa t3 or a Garmont Libero using a 3pin cable binding, I'd kill myself and my gear in a heartbeat.

Good Point gregg. I skiied the Dragons when they came out they were a fun ski... On an alpine setup you put them on edge and maintain a center balance and they hold a high speed carve.. I cant use 'normal' bindings on my 11-17 world cup salomon bindings I can still twist my foot out standing on 14... my frind cant do it at 8.. and equiptment if it is not up to your ability hampers your performance... try and ski bumps on a pair of 'Rock Hudson' Boots (see Rear Entry) and some foam core ski's... they wouldnt last 6 turns..
equiptments matters when you are able to handle it
