wait, let me guess....because theyre park isnt top notch and they dont ahve a superpipe and they should groom all the powder and make terrain features, right? thats the standard park rat argument on this site....
'core shots just mean you're badass.' -itsbackfliptime
probably the dumbest statement i've heard all week........congrats, bcz Alta rocks, i dont care who u r.........one of the best mountains out there, no doubt
the kid obviously didnt know his way around, that happens to a lot of people, alta is a hard mountain to get to the goodies, you have to know where to go, BUT REALLY KEEP THINKING THAT AND NEVER GO BACK TO ALTA AGAIN, ESPECIALLY IF ITS A POWDER DAY
ive got another version of the pole dangle, its pretty funny too, gets cold when i do it on the lift tho.

alta is just at a different pace, there is some stuff that is better than snowbirds and stuff that is not, some people love the almost all traverse lines, they look at snowbird and think that every one is lazy and needs a chairlift to everything, you just do what you like, i dunno i prefer both but there diff very different.

right, like i said alta is full of hiking hippies with greatful dead patches on their jackets. hiking is only good if there is a huge cliff, or a mountain dew machine at the bottom.
just make sure u stay on sunnyside. the vailridge is sicky!

That's awesome that you guys have been able to spend so much time together the past few months, sharing what we all love - Skiing and newschoolers. - nut
maybe for you you just knew exactly where to go when you went there, but obviously this kid didnt, cuz hes saying it sucks, and a lot of people i have talked to that just go there says wow its just hype. so.....all in all, just never go there again.

I would say the majority of you that posted in this thread aren't even from Utah, and MAYBE have skied Alta once or twice, therefore you are just defending the hype that the places gets.
I ski there... I have a season pass... I ride 3 times a week, and I partly share Marley900's opinion.
The terrain and the pow are unbeatable, but it is a MAD tourist trap, the locals are sort of douchebag elitists, and it's true... to get to any of the really good stuff, you have to take long ass traverses. And sometimes you gotta hike for a while.
Their park is shameful, so there isn't a whole lot to do there when it gets really tracked out and there is no new snow.
That being said, Alta is the place to be on a powday (hands down) BUT, it gets old on other days, and the progression of newschool skiing there is nil. Please, have some experience on this subject so your opinion can be somewhat credible... otherwise, if you are from Michigan, or Illinois and you came out here to ski once with your family, please reserve your asinine comments.
yeah alta sucks soo bad.... don't ever go there...it's the worste. Definalty stay away from that place on powder days, they get the worst snow ever and it's soo flat. All in all no one should go there.

no steep terrain?!?!? i think you just haven't found it yet!

Skisprings7... you are misunderstanding what I said... I am not a "local" at Alta. I was born and raised in Salt Lake, but that doesn't mean I am a local.
The locals at Alta are pretty much the ones who live in the actual town of Alta.
You have probably never even spent more than a couple of days there (if you are not from Utah) so you are ignorant to what I am saying. Believe me... if you rode there often, you would understand.
OK this is how it is. Friday was the sickest day of the whole season at Alta. Collins was busted. Our last run of the day was on stonecrusher in about 3 feet of blower pow. Can you say about 4 sweeping turns down the whole face? That is the pinnacle of Alta's skiing. However, the progression of freeskiing feels stunted at Alta. It is a sick hill, but I think the lack of snowboarders has left Alta in Brighton and the Bird's wake. The resort really does have a "boy's club" type of feel. I know all the hippies will argue that you'll never get pushed or cursed at when a line drops at Alta llike at the Bird. I think the bird has a slight edge on Alta. Best of park and sick pow and terrain.
Hah, this shit is hilarious. The attitude at Alta is elitist, because Alta on a pow day has got the highest concentration of absolutely ripping skiers you will find anywhere. And they're shredding it in the place that is the mecca of deep, steep pow skiing.
It would be a fuckin shitshow if boarders were let in there, and anybody who doesn't think so doesn't understand the mountain. Brighton? please, the lack of terrain is glaring.
The fact that there isn't some monster tram going to the top of everything at Alta is what makes it better than the Bird, gapers follow the path of least resistance, and that is not where the goods are at.
So stay away from the elitist snobs at Alta. They don't want you there, you will be sweating getting to the goods, and you want to see all the progression snowboarders are making over at Brighton, don't you?
