So i tore my acl today

i tore my acl today and im wondering if anybody has suggestions on what i can do after i get surgery to make my knee stronger so i dont do it again.

It will be some time befor you can do any thing, but the first thing to do is get back your full range of motion, lots of stretching. then strength training with weights, and areboic exercise like jumping, running up hill or balance exercise on a balance disc.

oh damn, i just got back from an acl tear..

here's what you gotta do... like the other guy said work on range of motion first.. you gotta go to physical therapy. got to got to got to. range of motion, then weight lifting and strength training. do a lot of biking and a lot of stuff in the pool that you can't do on land, i know it sounds weird but the pool REALLY helps. just make sure you put all your energy into it and work hard and stay positive. it takes a while to recover from this but if you work hard and follow what your physical therapist says plus do more you'll come back stronger than you were. don't worry about it until a couple months after surgery but you're gonna have to start lifting some serious weights and shit.

it was first day at sqauw and i was just going in the park on my way down.
i did a 180 and overshot the landing and landed with all my weight on one leg

Knee injurys suck but backs are worst. Just listen to the doc and move it as much as possible. I tore my MCL and was back on the slopes 2 months after surgury

Leg press and plyometrics dude. See a physiotherapist. You wanna make sure you recover well or else your knee will plague you when you're 50.

Start in gradually though, otherwise you risk reinjury. Start with swimming and biking to build up strength without putting much strain on the ligaments.

And whatever you do, get off of crutches as soon as possible if you are using them. The muscles will atrophy with prolonged use.

do whatever your doctor tells you to do...they would know best. that sucks, my friend is in a wheelchair waiting for his miniscus/acl surgery to heal. he tore his ACL off his bone w/ bone still attached...it was rough. and i think i just swallowed some of my gum..whoops
