Making youre own wine.

Not that any of you are probably old enough to even purchase alcohol (in the US)... but do you or anyone you know made their own wine? Ive got a friends dad thats been makin this shit for years and its got a really good taste. Unfortunately he moved away last year and now im very curious. Anyone know some startup costs or ANYthing about making your own wine?

My friends dad owned a winery but yeah i got no idea on how to do it, just brew some beer, that's a lot easier

Its not inexpencive. My uncle makes alot of wine... Alot of wine. I dont know the exact procedures for it, but you could probaly figure it out from the internet somewhere. If you want to brew beer, My buddy Ben (B-cat) makes his own in his basement, he could probaly tell you what you needed for that, but from memory, it isnt cheap either. You need to get alot of spicific equpiment.

^ yeah im not sure about wine, but after you get the startup kit beer costs you about $20 CAD for 65 bottles...ASSUMING YOU GET IT RIGHT. you fuck up, and its easy to fuck up, you get low alchohol or something that tastes like shit. I'm assuming wine is just as tricky.

I dont know where you are, but the kit i bought at a store callled DeFalco's in Ottawa cost me $54 bucks, and it was a basic startr kit that could be used for beer OR wine. so the real cost is in the batches you screw up.

unless you are super serious about it, the easiest thing to do is to go to one of those places that lets you make your own wine. You can do anything from just ordering it, to bottling it yourself, and some places, doing pretty much everything and just paying to use their equipment. look into it, there are usually quite a few around.

i'm pretty sure its alot like making beer, if i remember what you do is something like this

squish up the grapes till they're all watery and stuff

put the yeast in and let it ferment

i think you boil it after that and then just cover it and let it ferment more, i'm not positive though...

you should prolly just find someone that knows how to do it... dont get caught if you're planning on selling it without paying taxes ;-)

making wine is easier than making beer. Basically its just fruit juice that has fermented. Beer is trickier because of all the different ingredients (and carbonation).

on reno 911 they said how to make prison wine but i dont remember what they said. and i think it would be much easier to just sit outside a gas station and ask ppl to buy you beer than making wine

or if your really cheap you can try making cider, or dandelion wine. for the cider, just buy normal stuff and fire it in a corner for a few years to ferment. Dandelion wine is better but you have to pick a lot of dandelions. and it takes about a year to ferment. but my grandpa dug some of that up a couple years back....it has KICK

this is how we do it. get 100 percent fruit juice from the grocery store, and go over a few aisles and get a yeast packet for making bread. take the juice and pour it into a bottle with a top you could fit a balloon over. add the yeast, shake it up, and put a balloon on the top of the bottle, sealing it off. when the balloon inflates and deflates again, take it off, strain the liquid a good number of times to get the excess yeast out, and there is your wine. it takes about 2 to 3 weeks and gets you fucked up, and tastes ok too.

we made wine in chem. If you put sugar in it ferments more, so you can make it have more or less alcohol content.

my sister and her garbage hippy boyfriend used to make grapefruit wine and sell it on tour, just get fruit (sugar) and yeast, mix it up and let it ferment.

We pay our debt sometimes.

Well I'm only second generation of my family in Canada, so we're pretty hardcore italian. We make our own wine,and tomato sauce, and ect.

Making wine will be a little expensive at first, purching your grape crucher, then your press, and the big jugs, daminagni we call em, and the grapes themself.

There is a whole lot of steps in making wine, and its takes about 4-5 months of care. The first year will be hard and experimental.

sams club had these make your own wine kits awhile back and I bought a couple just to see. They provided the grapes, sugar, yeast, and seasoning but pretty much left the rest up to you. Two months later, I had about 10 bottles worth of some damned good wine.
