beruit vs. "beer pong"?

an interesting debate... the drinking game we all play up here at school is called beruit but a lot of ppl i know also call it beer pong. here is my take on the subject:

beruit - fucking awesome game, two parners to a side each with a 6 cup rack (24 cups total per game), played with 2 ping pong balls. both partners throw at the same time. if both balls go in the other team's cups, you get to shoot again. once there are only 6 cups total on a side, that team has to rerack

beer pong - a mystery... some people think beer pong is a game played with ping pong paddles and a net, other people use this name for a pussy version of beruit in which you only have 10 cups and you rerack every time

what do you think? which is better? and which version of beer pong is the 'true' beer pong? just trying to start an interesting thread... :-P

If you rerack everytime, wouldn't that make the game less pussy? I might not exactly follow completely./

when we play beer pong we just drink until the game is over, then play again, there's no cup limits.

I would like to bump this thread. How did each name get started? I notice its usually different regions say different names. And from that, i have come to the conclusion they are the same game.

In montana, we say beer pong.

beirut is played without paddles - beer pong is played WITH.

Though after a few games, it doesn't particularly matter what you call it.

both are amazing, beirut is more often played and I'm better at it, so I like it better for now. Give me a paddle and soon, I'm sure I'd like pong.

Yeah my understanding:::

Beer pong originated with paddles and was entitled beer pong. Playing the game without paddles, in my opinion, is called beruit. There is great conflict about this subject but I stand firm in my beliefs.

Yeah seriously, that is the explanation. If people think beer pong is played with your hands, then... where does the pong aspect come in? With the exception of the ball of course. Beer pong is played with paddles, beruit is with your hands. It's easy to get.

Ahhhh of course. I never really thought about that, I thought it just refered to how its usually played on a ping pong table with ping pong balls. I still like the name beer pong better though, probably because I'm just used to it.

i think its just regional. here in MD its beer pong, 10 or 6 cups per side, 2 balls, no paddles, the rest of the rules vary depending on house rules. ive been up north and ive never been handed a paddle when i ask if people want to play beer pong, they usually know what game im referring to even though they call it beruit. also even with people who call it beruit the game style and rules are always different depending on that persons particular house rules.

as for why people call it pong with no paddles, your still using ping pong balls and many of the times ive played it has still been on a ping pong table.

i do want to try the game with paddles though, it seems interesting.
