I just thought I'd throw out my opinion on how magazines like Freeze will go under and how freeskiing will not become as large as we want (or don't want) because freeskiing is not marketable.
The reason I say this is because of our "image." The stereotypical skier wears XXXL pants and jackets and smokes a lot of weed. Now I don't care about how you feel, but the general public would probably feel that we are either: 1) Wiggers. or 2) Stoners. And having the number 1 skier/badass Tanner Hall smoke on public television in the X Games definitely does not help our reputation.
If we continue like this, we may never be able to shed our image and eventually help in the destruction of our own market. Having our poster children trying to be as ghetto as possible is not a good thing. It's one thing to wear huge pants and a huge jacket, and it's one thing to wear chains and "bling" and pretend you're a race that you aren't.
I know some of you are saying, "snowboarders are exactly like this too." They aren't. Do you see snowboarders smoking weed on TV and acting as stoned or black as possible? No. Hence their sport blowing up into a gigantic 90's phenomenon.
So watch how you act. And don't try and be something you aren't if you really care.
