Like my name says, I like carving. Occasional race with school too.
I've been taking my carving skis (atomic c9.18 2002 or something, they are sort've semi-twin..) into the park.
Today I messed up on a 180, landed on my head, pick up my skis and one of my brakes was bent (i've bent them before, not this bad though), forward a lot, no way i could put it on. Brought it to the pro-shop, cool guys, fixed it up sort've.
He told me that the bindings on my skis were like defective or something (the model) from before and atomic stopped using them or something, they aren't pivot bindings by the way. He also said my heel piece may be failing and to get a binding check later on. And uh, he told me to get twin tips if i want to do park heh. I'm pretty sure its a good idea =/. But um, thers alot of twin tips, I've been searching this forum for like an hour. I see alot of people reccomending Chronics, and PEs alot. I also saw tweaks too and the sort.
I'd a pair that could 'allow' powder wouldn't hurt either in case i ever get to get out of ontario. But mainly, are there any twintips that could enable me to carve outside the park? Groomers mostly? Im on the east coast.
Should I just keep the atomics for carving/racing and use hte twins? The problem that I see with that is that, I wouldn't ever know when to use which... when to bring them and stuff. I really like the atomics, woudln't really want to part with them acutally, just, seems like i'll just kill them more and more in the park.
Thanks for any replies.

the word around the site has been to get Public Enemies or Volkl Karma's. Im getting a pair of PE's myself, and i cant wait for them. I think ive heard that the karma's are slightly better for carving and outside of the park, but im not positive. I think either would be alright for the little powder that you might ski just because their decently stiff and have a decently wide underfoot without getting into a full fat ski. Good luck man.

Also, as a guy without alot of money, I"d rather not spend a fortune, saw some Lines of which I don't nkow hte model, they were yellow-orangish, said "Line" in non-curved letters, straight letters unlike the new ones. And uh, ar5s. They were around $400 without bindings. (Canadian)

this year's PE's are gonna sell for 400, but you could probably get last years for 300 (american), i have no idea about the karma's or the no-model line's you were lookin at

If you don't want to spend too much definitely get some PE's. If you look around you can get them for really cheap, and they are a good all around ski for park, powder, and groomers.

You should get LINE assasins, or K@ fujatives they are both pretty cheap especially the fujis. the assasins are LINE's all mountian ski designed for carving and all mountain ski it just has a twin tip and a few other features you would want in the park. that seems like the best ski for you.

although inexpensive, i thought fujis are soft so not the best choice for groomers. Id go with the PE's, i got mine ofr 180 at Rei. Call them and ask if they have any because there not on the website

If you want a twin that carves like a GS ski, buy a pair of Head Mad Trix. That said, they are very stiff and not particularly amenable to pow skiing (though realistically, you can ski mogul skis in pow if you really feel like it). The best all-around ski is very probably the Volkl karma. 87 in the waist, stiff and beefy, cood all mountain ski that'll carve brilliantly for you considering it's much wider than most carving skis (and thus pow float). Alternatively, Rossignol scratch BCs are about the width limit you'd want from what you're saying there (90 mm), and are moderately stiff (stiffer than most twins), but not really all that stiff. So more forgiving. I liked them everywhere, and yes, they hold their own in pow nicely.

well, if you wanna spend the extra buck, try the 4frnt msp, its got a fat waist (180 has a 92 waist), but handles like a beauty in the park, and so stable just giver down runs, and really nice out of the aprk, cause of the nice stiff tail.

i agree with jd that the scratch bc's are good on just about everything. I use mine no matter what the conditions whether its powder or ice. Also I've never ridden them but a lot of people say good things about the 4frnt msp's

For someone coming off of a carver. I's say assasins, mt's, pe's, or tweaks. All good for carving and park. You can find some really really good deals on all of those if you look around.

Here's the thing. You need to decide what you want to do on your skis most of the time. Rails, jumps, butters, moguls, carving, powder, cliffs, etc. Most twins out there will carve pretty dam good if you know what you're doing. Since you're a racer im asuming you can carve. I film for Jibij Pro Shop in Boulder, CO, and they ALL ride lines. Reactor Bindings break a lot so dont get them. Looks are good. I ride Chronics, they're stiff, so buttering is hard, but after you build up some calf muscles its not bad, and everything else is awesome. I would say chronics because they seem to carve the best of any twin ive ever skied, but i haven't skied every one out there. If you have any questions about lines, shoot me a message, and if I dont know the answer I'll ask Josh from Jibij. He will. Good luck bro.

"" I film for Jibij Pro Shop in Boulder, CO, and they ALL ride lines. Reactor Bindings break a lot so dont get them. ""
You know, this seems kind of dumb to me. If you wantt o express your opinion about reactors, go right ahead, but don't associate yourself with a business if you want to denigrate a certain company's product. I doubt Josh B appreciates it. Shops like Jibij have a relationship to maintain with their suppliers, and when someone claims to be associated with a shop and then says bad things about a product, well, it certainly can't HELP. And, amazingly, yes! LINE Notices what's said on NS! So watch what you post if you want to be in any way involved in the industry.

Ok, I meant Bryant. I realized that there might be confusion as I was typing it, but I figured, "Nah, I'm talking about Jibij, everyone will know which one I mean". Thanks for proving me wrong, Freezy.

Not meant to bump, but err, I thought it was better than posting the same thing in another thread. i don't really need twintip carvers anymore since im keeping my atomics (i was unsure before). Pure park ski, thats relatively cheap (I'm sure most skis can still get me down hills though right? just not best feeling, but doable? :P)
Head Mad Trix how are these? I'm quite light but I have decently strengthed legs. 5'9 140LB
I checked a local store, and the PEs were $600CAD (with bindings) and the Mad Trix were $489 with Tyrolias.
I also saw Ar5s like I said above, I'm interested, but they seem pricey, $389 without bindings... P10s are what? I don't really want to spend more than $500CAD which is around $410.
What do you guys think of the mad-trix? AR5s also for that matter.

Mad trix are NOT a pure park ski. Fujatives are the cheapest pure park ski out there, and they do that job well. Ar5 are better, but like you say, pricey. They work well outside the park too, though.

hmm i see. Haven't seen any around here at all. I had the feeling that 'carving twintip' was harder to find than 'pure park ski', but to be honest, anything would do I guess. I'm just looking for a twin tip I can learn and progress on thats not going to be very expensive and thats why I said 'mad trix' since it had a good deal.
Theres scratch Pro too, for the exact same price. I'

A skis ability to carve really depends on who is riding them.
I find my fujatives to carve shorter sharper turns than my mad trix, so they're more fun, but my mad trix didn't chatter one bit, which I like better.
