Replying to Momentum Camp news

I received this in email last night from Momentum camp which should quash the rumours over the state of Blackcomb's glacier:

Snow conditions

We understand that many of you are concerned about the snow conditions here in Whistler and wondering if our camps will be running this summer, so we wanted to give you an update and reassure you that camps will be operating as usual.

It’s true that we’ve had less snowfall than usual this winter, however the upper mountain is still in good shape and with potential snowfall still ahead in March, April and May, Whistler/Blackcomb have told us that their glacier operations are going ahead as scheduled.

We do not anticipate there being any problems with our mogul camps. If we see no significant increase in the snowpack over the next few months and have a very warm spring, then we may see a reduction in the number and size of our terrain park features. The mountain has said they will take every step possible to provide us with the best snow surface possible.

New competitive program

We will be adding a new high performance program to our camps this year, which is open to all campers at no extra cost. With the 2010 Olympics on the horizon here in Whistler, we want to continue to play an active part in building the new Olympians (and the nearly Olympians!) of the future and will be tailoring a more competition driven program, with additional seminars and one-on-one attention for those campers who choose this option. Mike Douglas retires

mike has decided to take a step back from coaching this summer to spend more time with his family and to take a break from his 15 consecutive years on the glacier! We expect some surprise visits as we know he can’t go completely cold turkey but we’ll all miss ‘the Godfather’ and wish him good luck for the future. Trennon Paynter will be our new Freeride Manager and is bringing a wealth of experience and new ideas to the program.
