Bythotrephes cederstroemi is a water-based invertebrate native to Europe. Its common name is the Spiny Water Flea. This name comes from its long barbed tail spine. The B. cederstroemi is about half an inch long and as a result, requires water currents in order to move long distances. The B. cederstroemi is a planktivore, meaning it feeds on planktonic organisms. It has a very general diet and is the reason for a drop in Daphnia populations with in the Great Lakes.
