Why do ski companies make the edges out of steel that can crack when you grind? Why don't they use carbide, because it's very durable (It's the metal edge on the bottom of the skis on the front of a snowmobile that allows them to drive on streets and stuff and not get jacked). Any ideas why?

nope, but try suggesting it, or try makin your own skis with um. thatd be pretty coll tho.

they probably dont because they had the cracking metal before skis were used for rails, so no one has really complained as much yet, what do boarders use??? same stuff???

I think they use steel edges too. They have more base area though, so the edges dont get as jacked. It may be hard to sharpen, but still would seem better for grinding

they've gotta have some reason to use the steel, but to tell ya the truth, I couldn't tell ya. It'd be interesting to find out...

interesting question. if you could find something better, and prove it works I think you would make yourself some good coinage.

I know! Ski companies want us to continue jacking our skis up so we come back every year for another pair. Just my guess
