peep this. We know you are not all great camera people, and we know you are not all loaded with money and connections to get video. However, the oppertunities for you to get some stuff documented is out there.
You need to see this as a job a little bit. It is your responsibility to get us somthing, otherwise we have no way of knowing how you are doing.
I get probably 10-20 emails a week asking about sponsorship and I tell everybody the same thing. Send us an HONEST resume that tells us about yourself, your style, your goals in life and in skiing, and include a video. Im sure that a lot of the applicants are good enough on the hill, but we will never know that unless we ski with you, or see a video!
Some of you made it out to US Open and had a chance to ski with some of the pro team guys which was great. We know Witt has been killing it and working hard because we got to ski with him and hang out. Further, he is working with a film company to get exposure for himself and the company. This the the kind of dedication we need, and the caliber of riders we want.
We dont want to give out free skis to kids who are just going to ski around their local hill and say 'yea, im sponsored, Liberty is sick'. This is a tough industry, you need to work hard. Sponsored riders are those who are working hard to travel, get media coverage, represent the company, and build up their own connections!
I dont mean to sound like an asshole, but kids who are just riding at their local hills, no matter how good they are, if they are not getting around and getting exposure for themselves and the company, the costs of sponsoring that person outweigh the benefits of sponsoring them. This is business! That's why you dont see companies like Armada with a roots team!
We dont only look at how good you are at skiing. We want to give the people that are working hard to come up in the industry the support they need to keep working hard, and keep aiming for the day they knock Tanner off the podium! That's why Salomon and Oakley sponsored Dumont for the last few seasons, they were supporting him so he could get to the top.
I hope I am not comming off as too much of an ass. We are super stoked on the team we have this year, that's why you were picked. This is a dog-eat-dog business, and the roots team is going to change every year! Some kids are going to get dropped, some are going to advance to the pro team, and some kids are going to stay where they are.
There is still time before our march meeting to get some shit done. You could get a friend with a camera, pay him $20 to film you for three days and you can easily get a minute or two worth of footage to send to us. Like I said, we are not looking for a Poorboyz video from you, just somthing so we can see how you are doing!
Make the best out of this next month!
...he died doing what he loved. He will always be rememberd as a great snowboarder, but more importantly as a great friend.
In loving memory of Josh Malay.
RED TEAM!
