From what I've heard, A-basin is making snow for their first year ever this season and they should be able to be open year-round. does anyone know if this is true, or is it all a bunch of bull??

they got permission to make snow now, so it should be possible to have year-round skiing. but i'm not sure it will happen this year due to the fact that there is no water, and the resorts might not make snow because of it.

thats a very low possibility. Even though tourists are colorados # 1 income, its still very unlikely. If they cant make snow october through june, then i dont think they can make it the hottest months of the year. Just go to saint mary's, its small but fun in the summer

have you ever skiied up at st. mary's? i've been up there, but not for skiing. There was like 3 or 4 rails. some boarders were riding them. there's really nothing else to do up there but to jib the rails.

a-basin will definately stay open longer this season than last season, but year round? i don't know. it's tough to say. st. mary's is for the desperate who don't mind corn snow. breck still had some snow in june. we hiked someone's home made kicker there one day. it was tight.

What I heard was that they got permission to make snow, so they are going to make a base between 200-300 inches and hopefully that will not all melt during the summer. Even if this plan fails they will definatley still be open into late June, early July. Maybe they will build a terrain park, they would get so much more buisness if they did that... the only summer terrain park besides Mt. Hood!

they would need all the water in the state of colorado to make a 300 inch base

Not sure of all the politics behind it but it would be awesome if A-basin was to be open all year. But then again you have to wonder about the quality of riding because as far as i know they have a very litt/non-existant terrain park and i don't think there will be alot of powder floating around

ok, they will make as much as they can and hope it lasts through the summer. It's not like they are gona make snow in the summer. If you've ever skis there in june or july you know how shitty it can be.

ACTUALLY, all the resorts in CO are saying that they will have PLENTY of water to make snow this season so I think it's way more than possible...If they will do it and succeed is another.

Of course they're going to say that so as to not cause a panic and therefore a loss in revenue, but have you seen the actual resevoirs? Anyhow I was under the impression that they werent going to be open year round.

water isnt a problem... although it was officially drought, they only use something like 1% of the water in the resv. whilst all the golf courses use like 50-60%.... but the snowmaking is only covering a few runs over by the beginnery bit off of exhibition...at least for know...

ok here is the real scoop. SOme resorts have more water rights than others. For instance Vail gets the most water because it is the most well know and biggest resort. all the mountains can make snow but only a few can make what they did in the past.

Lets drain Lake Dillon !!! drain it drain it drain it. We can always use some of the profits to buy giant ice cubes from iceland or something.

Lake Dillon doesn't matter to anyone except the saps thirsting away in Denver. All of the resorts' water comes from above them. I have been up to Breck's resevoir and it is full. Heard the same about Vail and Copper. Also heard that Keystone and A-Basin might have some issues, but then again it has rained and snowed for the past 5 days.

Vail gets more water because it has senior water rights.

You go to Abasin to ski, not do park. But still, if I could session the park in a tshirt this summer, i wouldn't care.

water is not an issue for most big resorts. it takes very little water to make snow, so it's not that big of a deal. hopefully a-basin will build a terrain park. i would love skiing a terrain park in june, that would be awesome. and they woule get so much more business if they had a park.

They got rights to make snow but they have to wait for their resovior to fill up so they wont be open all next summer but maybe in 2004.
