Style is harder for skiers than boarders

Its harder for us to be smooth and I'll tell you why. Every little tiny flail of our arms is amplified by these long sticks that are about 120cm long! Even if you move your arm one inch in the air, the end of your pole will move 8 inches! Plus our sksi are longer, so its the same deal as the poles, and we have 2 skis to worry about.
I dont think snowboarding is nearly as hard as skiing is in terms of looking good in the air.
This is just something I came to notice, kinda dumb, but ya...

no no. cake as in easy. well, easier than on skis. kids who just hop on to a rail and slide it and then think they're really badass make me laugh. true grinds, 50/50 grinds, are hard(er).

you mean board slides, 50/50ing on a board is cake, not boardsliding.

style is harder on skis cause snowboarders only havbe one piece of equipment so it is easy to make tricks into one fluent motion. we have two skis and two ploes

snowboarding is so much easier to make it look good. I used to snowboard and even tho i wasnt very good in the park i looked stylish.
Skiing is much harder to look stylish, but still much more fun than snowboarding

snowboarding has a lot more of a lazy laid back style, boarders have one board both feet are straped in and cant move one without the other, like matt said we got stuff that shows our mistakes in the air. but we can tweak stuff out more and do more variations of grabs. Snowboarders style is so smooth and perfected cause snowboard grabs are so limited so al they can do is perfect style, skiers on the other hand have more of a variety and dont spend as much time perfecting our styles as to learning new stuff to improve all around style. If you look at pollard, that guy has so much style cause he stays to basic grabs that dont deal with alot of movement to set up for style, while other riders do tweaked out grabs that are stylie there is always set up time to get to the trick and landing preperation to let go of a trick and get ready to land. If what i said makes sense take it in, if not just ignor my post

Snowboarding is fluid and more relaxed. You guys said it right.
But both feet are attached on the same level, thus making stability much easier.
But skiiers have quite a bit more flexibility to do greater variety.
Have you seen a pro snowboarder get launched off of a 90 foot kicker and pull a smooth 360 or 540?
It's beautiful. ;P

Two words... Devun Walsh
And grinding on a snowboard is easier? Yea I bet nose presses down stair rails are cake... JONES! Snowboarders can also do cooler shit in the backcountry because 540's don't make them land backwards in pow and shit their jumps are huge. Snowboarding definitely has more style... but I like how aggressive skiing can look, like a crossed up Jon D-spin. We'll catch up eventually (I think) More stuff like what Mike D was doin in Propaganda.

plus look at a pro snowboarder: pipe skills, park skills, rail skills, bc skills and big mountain skills...now look at the average pro skier, sure they might be sick at a couple, but not all and certainly not equally good in all areas. one day we will be like snowboarders now, but when we get to that point they will have already progressed even further past us...its like age, you can't catch up to someone in their years.

The kind of animosity and emnity between sports that we see between inline and skateboarding is pathetic, this kind of speratist view is childish and has no place in snowriding.. The sports are different,, the question is not that one is easier or more difficult.. The question is in the man on the snow, in the air.. In that is the proof.
Say what you will about my person,, but consider, that only the sport that you take with you truely matters, the rush,,, it's the that rush that makes you love it,, begin discussing the politics between these sports, and you give it an entertainer's view, it becomes cheapened, lacking, only a word on a page....

skiing is harder than snowboarding. it takes skill, no matter what you think. skis are just two really long, skinny snowboards, plus the big crappy boots you have to wear.

just out of curiosity, frost, weren't you bad mouthing skateboarding from an inline stand point not to long ago? And now you are saying animosity between inline and skateboarding is pethetic?
Pethetic.

ya i see what u guys are saying about how snowboardin has limited grabs. like when i saw a boarder do a cork 5 with a stale it looked tight as hell and all he did was reach down. in skiing grabbing and tweakin make a trick so much harder than it actually is. like that a 360 for example is you throw in a tweaked ass tail then it makes it harder.

Frost what's up with your hippy estoteric attitude? 60ties are over, man. Skateboarders are cool and inliners suck. Skiing is hard and SBing is not! Black and White, not Grey, just accept it.

I'm wondering if people who say snowboarding is hard have ever snowboarded. I think snowboarding is easier ultimately, but tougher to pick up. It's different than falling on skis, you don't just fall on a snowboard, you catch an edge and SLAM. Anyway It's not as technical at skiing, good snowboarding form can be attained easier than good skiing form. It takes year and years to get good skiing form... hell there are great skiers who say they learn new stuff every once in a while.

yeah thats definately true...i've done my fair share of uniplanking and it is alot harder to pick up than skiing. Skiing has more potential though as far as tricks go.

skiing takes more balls. my personal meaning is: snowboard style is easier, but snowboarders have all the same style.
skiing is fresh, new, exciting makes more fun.

...and remember snowboarders can't do any cross tricks...definite disadvantage....but really GOOD boarders are still very cool to watch...

i have never in my life, and probably never will se a snowboarder go bigger than skiers...due to their crappy sideways stance and total lack of balance (due to halucinogens i believe) they'd never hit the big stuff like skiers.....have you seen a snowboarder huck tricks off 80 foot cliffs??? or gap 130 feet while doing an inverted off axis spin with a tweaked out grab??? NO HOPE

are fucking kidding me you dip shit fuck? ever seen a snowboard movie? they might not throw shit off of 80 footers, but how many skiers do? they hit shit just as big, if not bigger...the only problem is that snowboards have a bigger surface area contacting the ground so there is more resistence, so they go slower.

If you don't think snowboarders can go big, check out the new issue of SNOWBOARDER magazine. The hits in that are insane.

ok, snowboarding is pretty easy to pick up in my mind, first time up a t bar i made it to the top and only fell like 20 times down the entire run making like 4 turns inbetween each fall. I do agree that when you catch an edge snowboarding it is SLAM! as preveously stated. As for snowboarders not going as big and doing inverts or off axis tricks when going big, i saw a pic of a snowboarder hitting a 130 foot long table in a park doing like a corked 7. it was insane. I think it was over in europ some where but i saw the pic like a year and a half a go. i think if you look at dofferent skiing styles you will be able to determine what it is weather it is lazy and smooth or fast and tweaked. a good example is pollards style where he ussally just does a safety or jon olsons throwing in tweaked out tails into his tricks. as for white rushers comment... you make skiing sound like nothing more than a fad ' its new, fast exciting' or somthing like that. Skiing isnt new, its been around way longer than snowboarding, its just changing track of main stream. the big problem that i feel kept us with the FIS rut so long is that we built up to it, and we doug ourselvs so deep its hard to clime out and build your self up at the same time. I feel skiings just finished lying down the concrete base and now where bringing in the steel gurders and building up the sky scrapper.

like matt said, it is harder to make skiing look stylish. everything is longer making every small movment look larger than it really is. someone was saying how hard it was to do a nose press on a rail for a snowboard. consider how much harder that would be on skis. I don't even know if it is possible with skis. on a board you are still facing forward, and on skis sideways. yes snowboarding has style. yes skiing has style. It is just easier to make it look good on a sb.

skiing is the easiest to learn hardest to master, flip that around and you get why snowboarders will never be as good as we can become, and why so many tried snowboarding trying to be cool.

I like snowboarding, but it when I see even the coolest snowboarding stuff I don't get the same feeling as ski stuff. I dunno. I like snowboarding though, it's fun, I do it now and then.
