Colorado Sucks, Europe Rules!

Funny how so many Europeans start wetting their pants when they here of mystical places such as Aspen, Snowmass, Vail and the likes. Little do they know that these places are just hype. When I first got to Colorado, I thought this was all a bad joke: Tiny hills covered with forests with man made runs running like scars from top to bottom. While Utah has somewhat better terrain and snow it still only takes a few turns to get from top to bottom.
My advice to Europeans: stay here and ski France (la Grave, Chamonix, Tignes, Isere) and Switzerland (Verbier). It offers the wildest lift-accessed big mountain skiing in the world. You can save the money that you would have otherwise wasted on an intercontinental flight and spend it on a season ticket.
Hey, nothing against our US counterparts, but unless you live out in AK, you haven't seen it all until you've cruzed to the motherland...

Probably right, but Jackson looks good in the movies, but then almost anything looks good when people throw themselves of 45ft cliffs and all you need for that is the cliff and snow and some space to ride it out. Dont know.

okay so i'm from europe too and to be honest, i've spent the last two seasons in colorado. why? cos yeah the runs might not be as long, yeah there are more steeps in europe, but there are also fuck off lift lines, except no one lines up its just a frenzy, the parks if thats you thing are better stateside, and last year was a bad year for colorado, but all my friends still said it was better than the rain till new year that europe was getting.
depends what you want, cos without taking sides, NA has better CONSISTENCY than europe...

I have skiied in Europe every year for the past 15 years (i live in the UK) and the terrain is really good and thers lots to ski but there is never much snow, you cant even guarnte that there will even be any snow in the middle of the season and the parks suck. Dont get me wrong but I would much prefere to ski in the US or canada.

france aint cheaper than the us - okay if you gotta fly a ticket from london to geneva or lyons to hit up the alps is only like
£27, compared to a flight to denver which is like £500.... but go from like la to denver it aint too much different to like london to europe, same as la to europe is like a london to denver flight. once your there the shit is about the about, and the way cash is right now canada is even cheaper...

contrary to popular belief, the best time to ski in colorado is during the very tail end of winter and early spring. last march i skied pow every day of spring break. during a good winter here, a-basin stays open until July 4th. if you want long runs, go ride the tram at jackson hole in wyoming.

I agree totally with Dspin... I've skied here in CO and out in Vermont. Both were good for their own reason, and I'd take any lines I can get. Ski where you can, when you can, the best you can. And leave everyone to do the same.

Hey Phrosty. I like your style. Shows you ve given the subject some thought... Last season I have had run off Aguille de Midi (3800M) down 50degree powder slopes, coulouirs, glaciers, trees, glades down to Chamonix at 1000M without having to take a single lift except that which takes you up to the summit. You just can't fuck with that man. Yes snow consistency has become an issue here, but when it snows, you usually get to ski powder for days as the terrain is so vast. But the point is well taken. However it is not about US vs Europe but about where to go for best skiing and I think this happens to be over here.

Yeah Europe has somethings that are ok, but if you can deal with all the pricks that live in Europe,, too many English and French that think they are hot S^%$ because they are European,,, whatever dude,, Colorado has the kinda class day and night that Europeans only wish they could get their hands on...

you want good skiing....go to kickinghorse, no lift lines 4100 vertical feet a run (i'll pay anyone who can ski top to bottom without stoping and still be able to walk the next day (we got in over 80,000 vertical feet in 2 days...that's more than you'd get in 3 days of heli-skiing), almost no snowboarders and the best part...it's like 48 bucks canadian for an adult, not like vail with it's 85 american or whatever...KICKING HORSE RULES

I don't see the point in these arguments. You ski where you ski out of need. Frankly, lets all be grateful that there are hills and there is the miracle of snow to unite us all in the quest for a thrill

I agree that the hight of the european moutains kicks ass but i do think the average temp is warmer than in usa/canada. so when we get snow its great for about 2 days but then melts and refreezes (spp?) and you get loads of crappy crust. where as its FUCKING cold in usa so the snow stays as it is. it just that it will get tracked out by the afternoon.
Phrosty if you are gonna come down on the europeans please seperate the french from everyone one else. Cos they tend to have they tend to have the attitude. allthoug not many.
And by the was im sure all the american arnt perfect either

here in France we've got real mountain, not hills like you have...maybe the park here are shitty except in 2 or 3 resorts, but most of the freestylers here prefer to do backcountry kicker that fucking icy big air...
and Phrosty you suck

yes, jackson hole is the shit. Longest runs, steepest shit, best pow, huge cliffs, ok park, awesome backcountry. I have never been to whistler but i hear its sick. If any of you come to jackson, holla.

if we are just talking about best skiing in the world I would say BC maybe. Between interior resorts like kicking horse whoever said that and red and all those mountains all sound really sick. There is whistler to and lots of backcountry. Europe seems cool and I am not saying it isnt but I would rather stay in NA where there is generally more consistent weather and snow. What about South America is there weather more like NA or Europe? I have heard several people compare partillo to colorado like a couple shitty seasons then a really good one then some more dry warm ones.

Whistler's really gotta lotta hype , and honestly their snow kicks ,, their parks are the best around, and well they have great camps... And sorry you are right the French think they invented skiing , and always come up with another good excuse why they are better than everyone else,, I have met a few English like that though too.. Never met a Norg I didn't like before... But as far as races go, as long as your jibbin then who cares if your butt is black, yellow , white, or red......

Kicking Horse is the best mountain in NA hands fuckin down. i skeid five days there(all for free, dont ask how, ill never tell) there is soooo much sweet inbounds, and the OB is even better. plus one day I was there, the lifties counted only 95 people on the hill by lunch time. how sick is that. plus there were like no snowboarders to rape the lines. Red Mountain is pretty sick too, no one goes there, and theres the best trees in the world
