Should my big toe go all the way to the tip of my boot or should there be a little room?

Standing upright you should feel your toe against the front of your boot. When you flex forward, it should move back so that there is a slight gap. Having it JUST touch when you flex forward is OK - they will pack out for length very slightly.

I would have a little room in between. If that doesn't feel comfortable you can always put on an extra pair of socks which will bump up your big toe to the front of the boot.

You should do a shell fit to see if you are in the right ball park. Look it up or talk to a fitter
