So I worked this last week at a ski sale and noticed several key points as to why skiing may never be as strong as it once was. We all know that snowboarding is more popular than skiing at this point, no matter how much we want to pretend its not. Point #1: The people who are gona sell you skis are old frumpy men and women who consider a good ski day to be one when it ends at 3 pm and and you drink cocktails in a lodge with your friends and talk about your condos and boat in mexico. As a result these people aren't going to attract any one under the age of 35-40. if you look at a snowboard dept. its all gus ina girls between 18-25 wearing t-shirts and drinking red-bull and jolt cola. Point#2: skiing is a lot more expensive than boarding, boots for snowboarding are like 100-200 bucks for skis they range from 250-700 fuckin dollars! bindings are about the same and skis are like 400, usally and boardas are around 300. some do cost mnore but this is a average. point#3: hardly anyone knows what skiing is capable off, its stereotyped by boarders and a lot of skiers as a groomed/mogul/race sport. I know its not but thats how its seen.
sorry this is so long its more of me venting than anything but I just wanna say that we should all do whatever we can to further the spot, not only new tricks but show these people that their is more to skiing than they see.
I’m off on a rocketship prepared for something new
I’m off on a rok-it-ship ecstatic with the view
I am scared of the things upcoming
And I want for the things I don’t have
Cannot stand to be one of many
I’m not what they are
