go into dos and type format c:

then just follow the prompts.

Then once it's formatted, slap your OS cd into your cd rom and give it shit.

beware that format c: will erase EVERYTHING on your hard drive, when i did that with my old comp it erased the cd drivers too, so i had to keep a floppy disk with my cd drivers on it to be able to install windows, make sure you have your OS cd, and possibly a boot disk.

DO NOT do it through dos... you can easily fry the hard drive (I've done it twice)... in windows, go to my computer, then right click on the drive you want to reformat, and selecet ormat... that will do it.

if i remember right, i think i just went to start, windows, run, and then typed in fdisk.

If you break your computer while doing this, you can't blame me.. just giving you a reference..

Assuming you're using windows 95/98, do this:
Go to start, control panel, add/remove programs. Go to the Startup Disk tab, put a blank disk in your a drive, and click 'Create Disk'.

If you really don't need ANYTHING on your harddrive, keep the disk in your computer and restart..

You will boot up automatically using the disk, not into Windows if you keep the disk in the drive. When you get to the a:\ prompt, type 'format c:'. It'll ask you if you're sure (cause it thinks you've gone mad) so say yes. It can take quite a while depending on the size of your hard drive, but eventually it'll finish.

Put your windows CD into your CD drive and type d:\setup (assuming your cd rom is your d drive.. should be unless you have more than one hard drive). The windows installation will start and just follow the directions.

You'll have to re-install all software you had before, including any drivers (video, audio, etc)... the first thing you should do when your OS is done installing is go to windows update to get all the security fixes and such. Then go to all of your hardware vendor's web sites (such as creative for your sound card) and download and install the latest drivers.

yeah mycomp is so fucked righ tnow, but i got my boot disk done and backed up my school files and stuff, ill jsut downlaod all ym apps mp3s and videos again, but im about to do it, hopefully it won't take too long

heres my damn proble , i made the start disk but when i reboot my computer itdoes eerything normal and doenst go into dos, and the disk is in there, so i don't know what to do, im stuck again

just do it through windows.... it works, less of a chance of fucking your computer too... go my computer-right click c:\(or whatever drive it is)-select format. You probably want to use the NTFS if you're on windows 2k or NT, and FAT32 if you're on anything else, even tho I have 2k runing on teh FAT32. good luck, and don't blame me if it gets your computer fucked.

ok here is what i did, i fucking hate windows me, it would boot in a:, i went to bios and switcht the sequence so it goes A, c, then it booted with a but some shit came up like that wasnt explained here, so i said fuck it, went back to bios switched the order back. then i in windows i put the xp professional cd in and just did a clean install, i still wish to reformat my computer now, so maybe i will be able to do it with xp a bit easier, hopefuly

haha ok i think i got it, i need to get hte win98 bootdisk from bootdisk.com, put it in, restart my computer, enter command prompt with cd rom suport, then go into a: then type format c:, then after that is done type d:\setup and then follow instruction, ok ill get at this project tomorrow haha, but will i need to change by boot sequence to A,C rather then C,A, there are also some other optiaons in cluding cd-rom drive in boot sequence, thanks to eveyrone that helped

If you do a clean install with XP, it should work fine...

clean install with xp works fine it just doesn't delete anything, but i learning now, i just never done it before so thats why i didn't know anything aobut it, but yeah so its working now
