Well that's a mental image that's not coming out of my head anytime soon.
The 12s and 14s come with the plastic toe piece that allows for a vertical release. The toes on the 15s and 18s are full metal and do not have the toe wings that allow for a vertical release. Personally, I like the feel of the 15s/18s as they are much more durable with only a marginal weight increase. Toes for 15s and 18s also allow you to install a CAST touring system, something that is not possible with the 12s/14s. Hope this helps bro!

Hooooooold on i swear we all discussed this last season but are you sure there’s no vertical release on the 15/18? I believe you’re correct but I swear someone explained why they actually do have vertical release
Take a peak at the animations - seems like they both should pop upwards. Personally, I happily ski sths, attacks, pivots (14s), and somewhat unhappily (but accept the compromise) ski shifts. My guess is people on this site worry a ton about bindings because no one wants to destroy their tibia or acl, but in practice its probably mostly a) having them properly set up and checked b) not skiing out of your ability level and paying attention on stupid groomers c) luck.

As someone who’s skied both, the fifteens and the eighteens feel more solid than their plastic toed opponent. And yes, they both have a vertical release
The metal toes have many benefits that have already been mentioned, namely durability and cast compatibility. The plastic toes have 3mm more elasticity and I have found that they are slightly easier to step into. I have both and I find the on snow performance to be basically indistinguishable
