can't make your mind up for you but I have one and it's awesome. even though it's only 3MP camera it takes really good pictures especially with auto focus, plus it's an iPod, a really good one too. soo many apps and shit it's sick. I know there's lots of other cool phones but I couldn't imagine having another phone haha. only downside is its a little expensive

Im in the same spot. Looking to get one with telus. Their handset selection is awful though so I'm pretty sure I'm going with a 3gs. I'm just super sketched out about breaking it though... I am pretty hard on my phones and have lots of horror stories.

Well I already got a Droid

Also your iphone, does it do turn by turn navigation? I think it does...but at the cost of around $70...

Meanwhile the droid does it for free....with google streetview...and terrain and shit....Yeah big blow to not only the iphone but TomTom and Garmin and other companies who make a living off GPS.

Take this in for thought....after a Citigroup analyst reviewed the Droid, he upgraded MOT (Motorola stock), and downgraded RIMM (Research in Motion, or Blackberry...)

In other words...the Droid is attacking the iphone...the blackberry.....and people who want a gps in their pocket that also happens to have the internet there as well.

Oh yeah, what good is an Iphone if the network sucks? It might be a great phone, but what good is it, if you have shit for coverage?

Verizon has impressed me BIG TIME. I can stream Pandora from school, to home, to work and this includes traveling over 140 miles one way, and in rural locations as well.........

Main point here is you are a consumer making a big purchase. You should seriously consider all options on the table,

There are numerous Android based phones out. You have the Storm 2, Palm Pre, The Blackberry 9700, Iphone obviously.

Big things are happening with wireless devices, and I think we need to drop the fan boy attitude and start opening up our mind and trying other things.

You can buy a Droid, and return it within 30 days with a $35 restocking fee I think it is....worst case scenario you paid $35 to rent a bad ass phone and you decide you want to go with the *whatever phone*

I'm on the droid right now!!! Its so sick, totally worth it. I've got sick widgets that give me news on the auto industry in real time, there are a lot of the same apps for the ipod/iphone on the android market too. Now that the droid is out, sooooo many more apps will be made, it wall eventually catch up with the app store. The voice recognition is sick as shit. You literally hit one button, say pizza, it will find pizza places near you, give you the option to call them, then give you FREE turn by turn nav to get there. Overall the phone is boss, and its only gonna get better

Droid does. You can hack your Droid to allow tethering on the $30 data plan from Verizon.

Yes the Droid is sick. And I am looking right now and pretty much all serious phone apps on the iphone are ported over to the Android OS.

Plus if you want GPS on your Iphone, you can always buy TomTom for $100, and the $120 car kit.

I mean the Droid only includes it for free, and the car kit is only $30 with the Droid.....so its a no brainer here. Iphone is a steal

Yeah yeah...I was just surfing the net....while listening to streaming radio WHILE using the GPS today.

Fucking sweet, multiple apps running at once.

If you search for notes though in Android Market there is a fucking shit load of apps. So many I don't even care to look at them all.

One thing I love about the Android OS is I am finding a ton of free apps that are awesome. The most expensive app I want is like $2.99 or $3.99 and it tracks airplane flights in the air and is basically your travel pimp.

Although I haven't looked at that applications competitors yet....

The big thing to keep in mind here is the developers that made the IPhone great, with 65,000 applications and counting....are not going to be encouraged to write apps for the Iphone when they can write for the Android OS. Google isn't out to discourage innovation.

Apple discourages innovation if it takes money from them, or one of their friends.

yes but the i phone no turn by turn navigation but you can just google any adress you want to go to and it will give u google street view to the destination....

I am a big fan of cloud computing and Google does that well.

I think you are dead on with Android becoming the next "Windows Mobile", aka you gotta phone? run our OS!

In the end it means there will be some less than spectacular phones, budget phones, baller phones, and so on It can create some confusion in the market. But it will only unite people to agree that Apple should loosen the rope on the Iphone....

Let there be a rechargable battery, let there be less restrictions and enough with the hurdles developers have to get around.

Apple gets serious when their competition gets serious, and now thye have serious competition. What Apple does from here on out will be very interesting.

What I like the most about Android is...its not for business users, or kids.....its for everyone. It targets everyone, and the IPhone has just a small niche of AT&T customers.

Developers will have a no brainer here though I think, make apps for an OS that will be on dozens of phones, or make apps for a company that may or may not let you release it....and you can only sell your app to Iphone / Ipod touch users.


Apple is all about limitations, I wish more people would see this heh. By limiting their stuff they have effectively enhanced it though. Because I dunno if I mentioned it here or not, but you can't buy a crappy built Mac, or a poorly spec'd Mac. You just can't....but the price tag should tell you that......

yes the navigation thing is an undebatable advantage of the droid but please stop pretending as if the iphone was unable to run multiple applications at once. the only thing you have to do is jailbreak it and install backgrounder. its not even that difficult so no advantage of the droid there.
of course it would be nice if apple allowed running multiple applications at the same time themselves, but as long as theres jailbreaking i dont really care.
one of the iphones biggest flaws in my opinion is the poor camera which does not even have a flash and its plastic back cover which just sucks

You miss the point completely though.

Your mom or sister doesn't know how to jailbreak an iphone. You shouldn't have to hack it to claim it, although to be fair I did say in a thread you can hack your droid so that you can tether it to your notebook and be able to tether for free.

as i said its pretty damn simple to jailbreak an iphone and every mother/sister/grandmother knows someone who will be able to either explain or jailbreak it.
the only thing you have to do is concern yourself with your iphone as soon as someone with a different device has a function the original iphone does not offer.

I'm not going to lie; I have an iPhone and the service isn't great. But for what it's worth, it's not bad either. If you can deal with frequent dropped calls and poor connectivity, lost voicemails and text messages, and the overall suckage of AT&T, that is.

It's not Apple's fault; it's AT&T's. The iPhone 3GS is easily the best cell phone on the market today. Period. People will disagree, but they are just a nuisance--similar to the legions of iPod haters. There's no denying it; the iPhone is the single best phone on the market. But it's crippled by a AT&T's network. Judged solely by how it's supposed to work, the iPhone wins. Judged by how it does work in the US on AT&T's network, it's #2. Not Apple's fault, though--AT&T's.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say either the Palm Pre or the Droid is #1 right now.

Maybe it's because i live within a mile of Cincinnati, but i've yet to have a problem with dropped calls, text messages, etc.  The only time i haven't had 3G coverage was today out in the middle of bufu Ohio driving to Columbus. The iPhone itself is really nice.  I plan on jailbreaking mine soon (god i hope i don't drop it or something, new screen's cost $200.00, and i don't want to break the warrantee and have to get it fixed with my own money).

If you do end up getting the iPhone, get one of those low-profile cases with the rubber-plastic material, because those motherfuckers are slippery.

looking forward to the pre.  don't know if i need all that shit on a phone though..

although at times it is nice to have a 3g network so i can look up stuff when i'm outside the house.

found an iphone on the floor of a coffee shop.  returned it to the lost and found.  thats how much i don't like iphones.  haha nah it was the right thing to do, just trolling here.
