Sounds like it is going to happen for the 2011 season from what I have heard. I think it will be a good move for Nike 6.0. As long as they don't start manufacturing hard goods I am all about it. Good for Andreas since Nike ACG has pretty much gone away. Hopefully the Euro 6.0 team will grow this year. I would be stoked to see PK rocking some new kicks if he ever starts skiing again.

why would you be upset if they started making these hardgoods? big companies like that have the resources to make some hardworking engineer type dudes dream come true! imagine if you got out of college, after years of going to school to learn how to make skis or what have you and freaking nike comes up to you and asks for you to hook it up...boooommm! salary like woah! or are you too concerned about keeping it underground/hyphy/core?

haha ya i was gonna say this exactly. I mean i know some people think like they are just a shoe brand and what not but like look at all the other stuff theyve made that are very high end ; nike red golf clubs, all their running shoes, tennis equipment, football etc. but its not even that bad since 6.0 is already so involved in the extreme sports industrie

i agree, even if it may feel like something like nike making hardgoods will make skiing "too mainstream" or whatever, nike and other companies like this provide many jobs for many people when they start up new endeavors like this. as a second year university student i am already a little concerned about getting a job after i have graduated to pay off schooling and paying back my parents for what they have given for me to go to school.

in a sense yes, it does suck that it could mean skiing will be "more mainstream", but it will provide jobs for people like us who dream of working in the ski industry, or even just getting a job after graduation. also, the sport going more mainstream means more exposure and money being poured into the sport, as well as providing more opportunities for sponsorships and jobs and what not.

I don't care about skiing being underground/hyphy/core. One of the most underground/hyphy/core skiers, Tom Wallisch, was just on MTV. Can't be underground/hyphy/core skiers with that exposure. Skiing is already big and I like it that way. K2 skis changed every ski in the line in some way for 2010. K2 Snowboards changes every couple of years. It pays to be in an industry with the amount of money that the ski industry has.

I know quite a few people that work for Nike. I have never heard of anyone that came out of College and had an industrial design or engineering gig heading up product creation for them. They would buy a ski company and stamp Nike on them until they completed a couple years of R & D.

I am concerned that Nike would have a crazy dream team of free skiers and would pull the best athletes away from the largest manufacturers. I think this would hurt the industry for a couple years and I don't want Nike to become the Burton of Skiing.

Hey man no hate against you personally but why do people group these words together??? I see it so much and it always bugs me.  To me personally they do not mean the same thing at all, hyphy is just really an attitude, underground is just a position, and core well... Thats a tough one to define it seems a touch issue on this site but it doesnt mean the other two in my opinion.  Anyone else agree with me?

seriously i know i would never buy a pair of nike skis or outerwear for that matter. Companies like nike and under armour kill smaller companies who are actually dedicated to us. These jobs your talking about are gonna be in asia not north america. I feel like deleting my ns account after seeing threads like this.

i would say salomon or k2 are much closer to being burton than scott is....... scott makes a bunch of ski gear, but salomon makes everything short of gloves, and k2 technically makes everything, k2 makes skis, helmets, poles, marker makes bindings and goggles, fulltilt makes boots, etc. anyways, a company LIKE burton isnt such a bad thing, even burton isnt THAT bad, they do pump money back into the sport, and help the industry greatly.

You have a valid point about Scott, but they are a little different. Burton has crazy minimums and dealers are forced to hit growth numbers or they lose the brand. Dealers take on the unrealistic orders because they know Burton keeps the lights on and they don't think they can survive without the business. Once the dealers lose the brand Burton becomes stronger by opening up flag ship stores and selling all products online. If Scott really starts to compete directly with their dealer network i would call them the Burton of skiing.

Yea, they kill small companies and don't help skiers, which is why under armor picked up guys like dash longe and anthony boronowski. you think that the guys who designing the product aren't dedicated to making the best stuff they can with the resources they have.

They picked up anthony...damn.......anyway i know there gonna make a decent product, doesnt mean that they dont kill the smaller companies. Nike is simply a greedy company that wants more and more money so the put there little fingers into every sport to takeover. Its bullshit if you want to be a total fucking sellout go for it.

I saw TJs jacket last night in Glasgow, it was sweet shit, looks really cool. I do kinda feel bad about liking nike stuff though, so I was mega stoked when I got back to comp and saw pics of the fabric for the new Causwell stuff, it looks ILL! like more ill then the nike my miles.

Any company, new or old, needs to earn the respect of the industry and consumers.

Personally, companies that are founded by skiers and stay true to their roots as skiers have a huge advantage at earning my trust, because I know that I share values with the people in charge.

When a company moves into the skiing market from somewhere else, they have a lot of work to do to make up for the fact that they aren't owned or controlled by skiers. Examples of this would include giving back to the people who enjoy the sport by designing new, innovative gear to make the experience better or sponsoring events that offer a chance to increase camaraderie.  POC would be an example of the former with their helmets and new ski boot (which is the first legitimately new ski boot design in a long time), and Gatorade's Free Flow tour would be an example of the latter.

When it's all said and done though, I'd rather buy from people that like to shred pow as much as I do. Nike has a hell of a long way to go to gain my trust as a ski brand.

I actually don't mind this.

Sure we'll have another major "mass producing" company on the playfield but that just means our sport is finally getting the resources but into it that it should. Core companies like saga and first drop will still exist and still support the up and coming athletes.

Nike doesn't bother me in anyway either. A ton of their products are unique and customizable, and they have super legit lines for snowboarding. Yeah it's a brand name, but a good one. I'd much rather see the pro's repping Nike jackets and boots rather than Scott.

if nike started making hardgoods they would def make snowboards before they would make skis though. by 2030 nike will be making cars and providing cleaner, more efficient ways to burn our fossil fuels!

i was riding with tj and some of the uk guys at a session up in scotland after london freeze the other night, and i can tell you this stuff is seriously dope! it kind looks like a windcheater but the whole suit is really baggy. he said it would be out in a couple months and that it was exactly what he'd asked for. il get pics up if i can find them

People need to realize that Nike is not the only big corporation involved in skiing.

Amer sports owns Salomon and Atomic, Wilson, precor (fitness),Suunto (watches), Mavic (cycling) and Arc'teryx.

Quiksilver Inc owns Quiksilver, Roxy, Dc, Radio Fijj (hot swimwear it would seem), Raisins (more hot swimwear), Lelani (even more hot swimwear), Lib-Tech, GNU and Kohls and up until last year owned Rossignol too.

K2 Sports owns k2 skis, k2 snowboards, Line skis, Fulltilt boots, 5150 snowboarding, Ride Snowboarding, tubss snowshoes, Atlas Snowshoes, Little bear snowshoes, k2 skates, k2 bikes, Powderidge and Madshus.

Head makes a whole shitload of products for sporting goods but mainly under their own name, other than some tennis balls and Tyrolia...

Nike is not the only big bad wolf in the sports industry.....

also i dont think any ski company is gonna become the burton of skiing, because burton is the burton of skiing, its annoying but kids that ski still buy burton more than an actual skiing company
