Watchlifes binding ripping out?

So I bought some 06/07 Watchlifes from a fellow NS'er in the fall and just recently had em mounted. When I had them mounted the shop guy said that he though the core of the ski was very soft and that if he gave the screw another turn, he felt that it would strip itself. He hadn't heard of surface before and started telling me about little companies and their faults. I didn't really listen, and he of course, mounted them anyways. I didnt really get too worried after I skied them for a day, but the second day I was on them, which was today, I leaned forward on my skis and my heelpiece shot off. Now, I obviously can't go and complain to my shop because they warned me, so should I try and warranty them? It doesnt seem safe that I should try and remount them, because I'm guessing the same thing might happen again. And if I do decide to warranty, how should I do so? I hadn't had to worry about warrantying anything in the past, so if someone could tell me some good ways of doing so, that'd help alot.
Oh, and has anyone else dealt with surface regarding warranties?

Generally if you buy something thats not from a certified dealer, then there is no warranty. That's the downside of buying skis on NS/Ebay.

I'm not thinking shop warranty, but rather a manufacture warranty. I don't really know what my best option would be..

hmm... i always think the worst of people and i bet her stripped the screws when he mouted the skis then dripped some more epoxy in and told you they had soft cores.Â
but i've remeber a thread about someone who ripped their bindings out of brand new watchlifes last year and they shot into the woods at PC and they lost them first day on them or something

Most shops don't offer a warranty, as they didn't make the product. I was referring to a manufacturers warranty. Most brands want you to buy from a dealer, as they can trace the product that way. Buying from some kid on NS isn't reliable, because who knows the story behind that ski. You can't buy a car from someone in the paper, then expect the warranty to transfer. Same thing with skis, or really any other product out there.

Yeah I understand that part, but I'll contact surface tomorrow and see how things end up.

He got the skis from me, I bought them from jibij this summer when they were 279.99 and I sold them to him unused.

Fair enough. Just saying a warranty doesn't usually transfer. You should just ask the shop to heli-coil them, it's not that hard, and should fix it.

It is also possible that it was a bad mount. Helicoils might solve your problems.

What bindings were they? And I was under the impression Surface Watchlifes were very stiff...

Same thing happened with my 06/07s. When mounting them (fks 120) he said the screws weren't catching on the base and that he had to put healie coils in order to get them to stay. And when I was doing a nose butter on my 6th day my healie coils ripped out so my whole heel piece ripped out. Surface wouldn't warranty them either. Kinda shitty but now they're remounted with no healie coils and I haven't had any problems.

They can still be stiff skis with a soft wood core. It just matters how many layers of fiberglass they lay down.  Also helicoiling new skis shouldn't be happening, Surface should warranty any skis that have that happen to them.

I had px12 (jibs) on them. I guess theres really hardly any chance that I could warranty these...

strange. and i doubt they would warantee your bindings. just send in the heel, if its broke badly enough, and they'll send you a new one. or call them first.
but good luck.

word, helicoils would prob be stronger than a new pair that might just pull out agiain... or maybe the shop guy fucked up and overtightened the screw and said that shit so he didn't get blamed. anyway if you wanted to warranty them you can prob jsut call surfrace and they'll let you send them directly back...i did that with two pairs of skis last years and had no problems.

I didn't talk to surface yet, I was just hoping it was my shops problem. I figured if it happens once, its alright, if it happens again, I'll seek out a warranty. I had the shop put in a healie coil for the one that ripped out, so we'll see what happens.
