Here's a quick Jackson Hole edit from 12/5, 12/10 and 12/11. While Friday's storm flopped on us, the wind it brought filled in everything quite nicely. The mountain is skiing like it's midseason and Rendezvous Bowl smoother than it was all of last season.

After such a great Saturday, Jackson Hole took a Mt Baldy-esque 180 on us, replacing the forecasted 5-10" of snow with fog and heavy snow. When the 6 am report recorded only 2" of new snow, I slept an extra four hours and cooked myself bacon and eggs before making my way to the mountain. Aimlessly sliding around all afternoon was nonetheless tons of fun and without further adieu I present Volume 1 of The Whiteout Sessions.

Last Tuesday's surprise powder was followed by another 5" on Thursday and 6" on Friday, making for two fantastic days of skiing. Strong winds followed by warmer temperatures buffed out the mountain on Saturday, making for some funky skiing. Sunday was another storm day, with the resort picking up 8" and setting up what should have been an outstanding Monday morning. The weather gods, however weren't on the same page and coated the bottom half of the mountain with rain overnight. Rendezvous Bowl was still great this morning, but getting down the bottom half of the mountain was chaotic at times. And then mother nature decided to make amends by dropping 7" of blower pow for the today's last box. What a week! Here's a collection of clips from all of this.

It's been another fantastic week in Jackson Hole filled with blue skies and plenty of snow. We're now well past the 300" mark and going strong. As we gear up for another one, here's a look back at the week that was.

They allude to it in the final sentence below, but this is my rebuttal to Unofficial Jackson's complaints about today's conditions. Oh, and the mother nature will have added 5-10" by tomorrow when you watch this.
"The inbounds skiing on Jackson is still recovering. The upper elevations north facing shots still have a chalky softer base for this new snow to sit upon. But, most of the mountain still needs more snow to cover up this hard base left from the warm week. If you are willing to do some walking or skinning, there is still some great snow."

The past four days have been perhaps the best four of my life. It's been an up and down past month or so here at Jackson Hole and things finally started to turn around last week. On Saturday, co-worker Brian Wulf and I took three flawlessly smooth laps through Four Pines. On Sunday it dumped 24" in a 12 hour period and I met up with Don Watkins and Julie Weinberger for some deep pillow lines through Four Pines and Saratoga Bowl. Yesterday, Headwall, Casper Bowl and The Crags opened, changing my life forever and there's no end in sight. Below are videos from yesterday and from Monday. Enjoy!

With 64 ski days at Jackson Hole under my belt this season and my parents in town, I decided to mix it up and pay Grand Targhee my first visit this past Saturday. The drive was shorter than expected, we didn't wait in a lift line all day and there were plenty of stashes from the 7" that had fallen in the previous 48 hours. It was a great day and I can't wait until I can explore the resort's terrain again.

Another Sunday, another blown forecast...but who cares? NOAA's 3-5" 3-5" 2-4" sans winter weather advisory or winter storm warning very quickly turned into 14" at 6 am this morning and probably approached 18-24" by the end of the day. Please keep doing exactly whatever you're doing, Jackson Hole.

It's feeling more and more like spring every day. With an extra hour of sunlight, warm temperatures, snow still steadily in the forecast and plenty of sun to overexpose my GoPro, Jackson Hole's been a blast the past week. Here's some highlights, composed primarily of shots from March 7th, 9th and 12th with brief cameos by Will Hagna and Chris Dunn at the end.

We’ve received over 5 feet of snow in the past week and there’s two more storms on the way before the lifts close for good on Sunday. Every indication suggests that the season has the intention of ending the way it began and I’m stoked to be along for the ride.

When both Jackson Hole and Grand Targhee closed for the season, one must inevitably migrate South in search of lift service and this past weekend presented the perfect opportunity to do so. Snowbird picked up two feet of snow last Tuesday en route to breaking their all time season snowfall record of 688". That snow was followed by another 18" Friday night and by Saturday morning I found myself at the base of Little Cottonwood Canyon waiting for avalanche clearance after a 5 hour drive from Jackson that began at 3 AM. And well, from there it was literally all time. Just watch the video and you'll see.

If you'd asked me a year ago if I thought I'd be a ski bum at one of world's greatest ski resorts having skied through one of its snowiest seasons on record, I would have told you you were crazy. Watch the video, I believe it speaks for itself.

After yesterday?s bushwhacking on Teton Pass, I decided to head all the way over this hill this morning to see how well the slopes of Grand Targhee fared. I met up with Cassie in Driggs and by the time we got to Targhee?s base, it was already clear they?d gotten substantially more. There was probably 8-12? down low, versus the 2-3? inches Teton Village picked up. We were able to follow a skin track from yesterday two-thirds of the way up Chief Joseph Bowl, but had to break trail to and along the ridge to the top of Dreamcatcher from there. We stopped at the overlook just below the lift for photos and to take in the views. We made it to the top in less than 2 hours, where it was bluebird and there was closer to 18? with drifts in excess of 2 feet. We made our way down the lift line toward Wild Willie before hitting the cloud layer and heavier snow in the gully near Ladies Waist, laying down?as far as we could tell?the first turns of the season from the top. While it?d already begun to settle, the snow on the main fall line was surprisingly fun. I lightly clipped a few rocks, but couldn?t tell the difference between the new and old shots on my rock skis by the time we got back to the parking lot. Don?t miss the photos below the fold as well. After an unbelievably gorgeous fall, winter finally kicked into gear this weekend. We?ve picked up as much as 20? up high so far and there?s steady snow in the forecast through the end of the weekend. I decided to pull the trigger late last night and met up with some friends at Grand Targhee this morning. We skinned to the top of Dreamcatcher and made our way down Wild Willie. A strong wind had scoured most of the fresh snow on top, but the snow was light and got better and better as we made our way down. It?s still thin, I didn?t hit anything major. Can?t wait to see what the rest of the week has in store. Skiing & Editing: Than Volk Music: If I Gave You My Love ? Pretty Lights http://PointOfRelease.com
After going from no snow to a 29" base and a 81" season total in what seemed like a matter of days, Jackson Hole opened its lifts to 3,000 vertical feet of skiing this past weekend under bluebird skies. While it's still pretty thin and there's plenty of terrain still to be opened, it was a great start to hopefully a great season. It?s been a slow couple of weeks here in Jackson, as we (and most of the country, for that matter) have been stuck in a high pressure cycle for some time now. This week, however, brought some relief in the form of 5? of fresh between Tuesday and Thursday. While typically not something to write home about, the new snow coupled with an inversion layers made for some gorgeous mornings and some surprisingly good skiing Thursday and Friday on Teton Pass. It?s no secret that the beginning of this year?s ski season has been less than spectacular both here in Jackson and across most of the country. The lack of snow outstanding, we?ve slowly accumulated a solid and are perfectly poised for the major weather pattern change taking effect later this week. One of the thing?s that?s amazed be most is the mountains resiliency with even the lightest refreshes. The following edit contains footage from two recent 6? storms that provided amazingly good skiing. Skiing & Editing: Than Volk Music: High For This ? The Weekend http://PointOfRelease.com
The past week has been one for the books at Jackson Hole. After an unusually slow start to the season, mother nature turned the hydrant on this week, dropping 55? over a 5 day period, including 25? in 24 hours. With 179? of snow so far this season, a 83? base (nearly double what it was a week ago) and more snow in the forecast, things are finally shaping up. Here?s a glimpse at the week that was?
