It's that time of year when I start getting RESTLESS for winter. Time to make some edits to hold me over. Here's a mid April powder day in the backcountry.
Yup. It's that time of year where I start to go a little crazy. Crazy waiting for the first major snowfall. And then crazy waiting for a good enough base to start the season. So I make a quick edit to satiate the yearn. Winter's almost here guys...hang in there!
Filmed in Park City (February 18, 2021).

Just one of those days that came together perfectly. Utah powder skiing at its finest.
Bit of a sleeper powder day skiing at Park City and that's a first for me this season. What a day!
Not a great snow year in Utah, but April and May gave us a good handful of wonderful powder days!
Hey this is a buddy's video posted with his permission. If you want to contact him or ask questions, go comment on the video on YouTube.
Here's my comment on the issue/video:
"I feel the heart in this.
My introduction to mountains and wilderness was in Idaho. I was born there and it's sad to see rapid and expansive development gaining momentum there (I'm in Utah now).
It not only destroys our way of life, it destroys life. Wildlife that depends on this land to survive and have a chance at life. Which is their right.
Lodges and rollercoasters, more lifts and more expansion is not our right. I hope the human race will soon collectively realize this.
Let's work with what we have and refine that. Refine the resorts that already exist. Remodel and rebuild on land that's already been developed.
I'm joining this fight Dan!"
------
The Tamarack Resort expansion plans are out of control and threaten to take over more than 3,300 acres of pristine public lands in West Central Idaho. Tamarack Ski Resort is owned by private equity and real estate firms from Florida and Georgia. Their plans include a total take over of the public lands complete with a 10,000 sqft building on top of the Mountain, a mountain roller coaster, 5 new lifts, and more. These are developers from out of state with big plans to make their ROI through real estate sales. These out of state Tamarack owners do not share the same values of Idaho and threaten to negatively affect Valley County in many ways such as but not limited to, pricing locals out of their homes, excessive strain on local infrastructure, erosion of community identity, and loss of natural beauty by building lifts, roller coasters, and big buildings.

I am against Tamarack resort's expansion plans and it is time for the voices of the opponents to be heard. Tamarack will not slip under the radar with their ambitions to destroy public lands. I have co-founded a non-profit called Leave Our Lands Alone Alliance and we are dedicated to stopping the take over of these public lands. Stop Tamarack's expansion.
If the Forest Service *does* grant Tamarack a permit, they (or whoever buys it next) would be able to develop with no (well, few) questions asked any time in the next 40 years. Public lands should not be used as development/real estate collateral. So, keeping that permit from being granted is important to protecting the area from present and future development threats.

One of the best powder days of the year last season. At this point in the day I was traversing to find the best powder spots. Always tons of fun to pop from powder spot to spot. One of my favorite ways to ski while inbounds. Part 2 (the following run) to follow later this month.
But it's also so fun.
Skis are Line Chronic 18-19, traditionally a park ski but this year's model is so so good for freeride too.

Fellow snow riders in the West know how AMAZING December was for us. I had some pretty great powder days here in Utah. Since then we've had quite the dry spell so here's a powder skiing edit to hold you over until the next snowfall. Here's to more snow soon! The West needs it. May Ullr bless these mountains with his steps.

The last storm cycle in Utah was GREAT! It felt back to normal and this day was such a fun powder day at Park City.
It's an early start to our 2021-2022 winter riding season. Fingers crossed this snow doesn't turn into a problem layer later this season. We can hope for mild temperatures and steady snowfall until the season is over!

Man, I really didn't get to film much in the park. Busy with work in the backcountry and endless powder days. An awesome reason to not film buds in the park. Here are some shots for you all to satiate the craving a little!
It's that time of year where the craving returns! Creating an ski edit has become a bit of a tradition. These are cuts from some of my favorite filming of this season.
I'm required to have someone film me for a ski guide course application, so this was the most footage I've ever had of someone else filming me. So this was actually a really fun edit to put together. When the powder is this good, it makes editing pretty dang enjoyable. It's always fun to relive a day skiing like this.

Sorry, no action shots...not a lot of safe zones in the Utah backcountry right now so this past week I spent some time just sitting on a ridgeline and enjoying the view. Took these two motionlapses while relaxing.
