So I Have a Clothing Company?

by Rachy
Nov 10th 2009 - 10 comments

Well, it isn't mine. It is technically my friend Mike Wilson's (no, not the pro). But he asked me to join his small team of 3 (now 4) to try to get this thing going. Do I have time? No. Will I make time? YES!
I'm incredibly excited about the whole ordeal.
Mike was holding the clothing premier at the TGR premier at the Roxy. It went really really well and people responded amazingly to the graphics, including TGR.
So with out further Ado, I give you Warsaw Clothing.

There are plenty more and even more on the way. The shirts are getting pressed. The website is getting worked. And now comes the public.
Where do I come in with all this? Marketing, promoting, and possibly a team?!

Mammoth at the Top

freeskier.com just listed their annual list of the top 10 ski resorts and 5 best parks in the US. Mammoth just so happens to rank as the #3 ski resort in North America and the #2 park in North America.
I guess we are on par with Aspen/Snowmass considering they were #2 best resort and #3 best park. Maybe next year?
In the mean time I am content being in Mammoth. Word just got out that the resort is reopening on Nov. 7th for the full season. Then of course, the official opening on Nov 12th. Mammoth opens 3 times this year. Maybe they are trying to make it so that everyone can at least get to one of their opening dates. Kinda funny.

Opening Day

Well the mountain opened and it was fantastic. The initial line was around 45 minutes, but when you are standing with some of your best friends and having a snowball fight amongst 2,000 others, it really isn't so bad.

Sadly I think something happened to my camera, all the photos are just a tad blurry lately. But that's besides the point.

And Winter Begins

by Rachy

There are many things that designate the beginning of a new season... buyer's guides, trade shows, the end of summer camps, the start of rail jams--but it usually doesn't begin with SNOW!That's right, today, Mammoth Mountain got snow. Not enough to significantly matter, but wow is it cold outside.

For Cody Rosenthal...

It is always a sad day when someone in the winter community is hurt. This time it was a snowboarder. My old neighbor in Mammoth broke is L3 vertebrae on day two of the superpark sessions in Mammoth. He is an absolutely amazing snowboarder and was a fantastic neighbor and a fantastic friend. Sadly he didn't have health insurance and his family is being left with the bills. So if anyone has $10 or anything they can throw his way, it would be hugely appreciated. https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=5329329It's paypal, it's free to use. There is also a facebook group for this as well.http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=106109520029

I haven't written for a month now, and that is a long time to me. Anyway, a lot has been going on. I can usually do boxes, I can do 180's, when really encouraged i will try a 3 and maybe land it, my legs are finally strong enough to go into a nose press standing or skiing backwards. But aside from this, I had one of my saddest nights last night.

Eating Snow. Revised.

As an instructor or 5 years, I always told my students never to eat snow. I just ate like 1 pint of it or so while walking half a mile home alone at 1am.

Strep Throat and Too Much Weather

So there comes a time when you begin to wonder; how much is too much? This can relate to a multitude of things; too much saracha, too much late night Sex in the City, too much toilet paper and now the toilet wont flush... Anyway, where I am going with this is that I have had too much sickness this winter. And now, can I even say it... too much snow?

Perks of Working.

Sometimes working pays off. After some continuous begging I my work let me buy these on credit. No idea how we got them in. After talking to Oakley they said they don't even come out until Feb 1st and are back ordered for quite some time after. But alas, 40% off for instant gratification... Oakley Jupiter with violet iridium lenses.... I feel like I'm in the ocean when I wear them.

The New Year

by Rachy

So we are now 9 days in and nothing of any significance has happened in my life. Given, there was a 6.2 earthquake in some other country and Jon Travolta's son died, but neither of these events have yet to directly effect my life. By the by, I would like to declare 2009 superior to 2008. Nothing significant is better than the 6 months of joblessness, the heartbreak and the injuries of last year. 9 days is by no means sufficient to state that this year is better as a whole, but I already like my roommates, my home, my family, my job, and my school situation and the weather more than this same point last year. Hopefully the upward spiral continues and by the end of the day I will be doing 9's onto boxes (I had very vivid ski dreams last night.)

Cough Cough.

Being sick is pretty awful, especially when you are supposed be getting paid to ski, there are 2 feet of fresh powder, and it is partly sunny. Yet here I sit drinking tea; it's the only thing that doesn't hurt to swallow, and trying to get a hold of my work to figure out exactly what it is i am supposed to do tomorrow.

"So how is your day going?""Could be better.""Why's that?""I've got a huge bruise on my hip and I still haven't been able to slide a box yet.""How long have you been trying?""This would be day 2.""You live up here?""Yeah.""Well it's only December, you have months to get it down."
