Replying to Ski Recommendations All Mtn / Side Country - Line Sakana Replacement
Hi NS,
I have been running a 3 ski line up for the last couple of seasons and just recently killed my Line Sakanas. I have absolutely loved skiing on them, and their versatility is pretty unmatched. Keen to hear what people are vibing with at the mo and what could be a good replacement option.
My current ski line up:
Dedicated Park Ski
185cm Line Chronic (23/24 graphic)
Pivot 15s - Harluat 1st Edition
All Mountain / Side Country Touring
181cm Line Sakana (22/23 graphic - best of all time imo)
Cast Touring 1.0s
Pivot 15s - Pit Viper Colourway
G3 Climb Skins
Pow Ski
192cm Armada ARV 112 (24/25 graphic)
Look Pivot 15s - 2.0
I have an upcoming ski season locked in for Niseko, Hokkaido and will probably only be taking 2x skis with me: the Armadas and was planning on taking the Sakanas as my narrower width option and for touring (lighter etc than a 192 Arv112.) Following that we will be heading over to Canada likely to Revelstoke. Which leads me into needing a new ski for the all mtn and sidecountry touring category. These will be mounted with my Cast bindings and skied pretty damn hard, so I dont mind not going for a dedicated touring ski, just something that isn't going to completely punish me going for a walk.
I really enjoyed the carvey, buttery, and playful nature of the Sakanas, again they punched above their weight with the huge tip when the snow got deeper. Switch skiing I also really enjoyed cause of the tight radius and soft flex meant you could get them cranking forwards or reverse super easy.
I am an advanced skier and really like to hunt out every side hit possible, whilst ripping a variety of turns in between. 184cm tall and 80kg. I would be looking for something in the 185cm range to say 188cm long ideally.
The problem with alot of skis in that kinda do everything all mtn market is that they can be kinda masters of nothing. I find the armada arv 106s falls into this a little bit with the long turn radius making them feel bland when carving on piste.
Which leads me into the options I kinda have on the radar:
- On3p Jeffry 108 in a 186cm or 191cm with a 50/50 layup?
- Season Eqpt Nexus in a 189cm?
- Another flimsy Sakana that I know I love? (again topsheet is disgusting for 24/25)
- Line SFB 108 (graphics are soo dusty tho for 24/25)
Something in that 105mm underfoot range would be good so it doesnt overlap too much with the ARV112s.
Let me know what ya reckon, Chur Churr
