I’m married and I like it, also I think lab created diamonds are the move, they are the exact same as natural diamonds but way cheaper. The whole, “if you value your relationship you need a real mined diamond” thing is propaganda from jewelry companies

The diamond thing depends solely on the person you would be giving it to. If they think it's unnecessary then don't do it. If they expect a massive ring then do it, and by do it I mean run.

Use a family ring or get something vintage. Most down to earth girls don’t need a 20,000 dollar diamond, I mean I guess if your family is loaded or whatever then who cares anyway

Indeed. I would buy a 20k ring just to test a girl for golddigger status. If she makes me take it back she is a keeper. But if she said oh thats beautiful and accepts it, i would end the relationship right then and there.

Op this is just a random fact, but depending on the state, the ring is still technically yours if the wedding falls through and they're legally required to pay or return it back. Until you sign those documents...

I am married and its great. Its nice to have a woman by your side and know you always have each other. Its not something you think about when your young but when you start to get close to 30 its nice to settle down and have kids and stuff.

I also agree with lab grown diamonds. Diamond Nexus has good synthetic and lab grown diamonds depending on your budget. Both are visually impossible to tell from real diamonds. Its cool to support companies doing this instead of making the shitheads at De Beers rich off their monopoly and African slave labor. I got my wife some diamond earrings from them a few years ago and its crazy to see them for how much they look 'real'.

Yeah the diamond is necessary. You have to steal the hope diamond and forge a band specifically for her finger and the hope diamond or else no woman will ever marry you

I love being married (7+ years), and your "statistics" are also incomplete and dated. I'd be the one losing my ass(ets) if my husband and I ever split, and I'm a strong, independent woman. Marriage is still 100% worth it to me, but it's not for everyone. My sister and her partner have been together almost as long as my husband and I have. They aren't married, but they have a child and are happy.

Regarding diamonds: I told my husband numerous times before we were engaged that I never wanted diamonds (for multiple reasons). He's very old-school with certain things and ended up buying me a ring with ten of them (small ones) for our engagement. I love the sentimentality of the ring but still wish he would have gone non-traditional. I love to wear other rings with semi-precious stones (labradorite, opal) in lieu of my engagement ring, but I most often wear a silicone ring.

Point is: if she says she doesn't want a diamond, don't buy a diamond. If she does, I concur with the lab-created recommendations.
