Their leadership is one of the most hypocritical groups of people out there, and I know plenty "devote catholics" who are hypocrites as well. Their rules are so contradictory and even with past teachings. I say this as someone who was raised catholic. The more and more I learned about the religion as well as learning about other religions and the source of said religions really was an eye opener to the bs they spew. The Vatican and dioceses are just money grubbing whores who protect child molestors.
Read some things about abortion being an issue used to drive the evangelical vote. People who previously didn't give many fucks on the issue. As with many other things, seems to make sense. Pretty easy to sway votes with outrage.

The source of the Catholic religion is Jesus Christ himself. I don’t see how you can base your view of a whole religion on anecdotal evidence and experiences with hypocritical Catholics. Of course papal corruption is a thing, it has been throughout all of history. In my opinion it has been much worse before. It still doesn’t change the teaching of Christ and the magisterium of the church. It is founded by God not by mortal men.
