Also the governor saying that he was going to eliminate all future rapes in response to not having a provision for rapes in the new bill.

I don't live in Texas or know that much about him but that seems pretty cooked to even say that.

The pro-life movement claims to have good motives which I largely agree with, but their priorities to achieve them are pretty bad. Abortion is unfortunately not something that can be legislated away. Juat like guns and drugs, no matter what laws there are, people will still do it. So when people cheer on the passing of this law, I wonder what they are doing to help provide more positive solutions for the people facing the abortion decision. Are they fostering? Adopting? Providing meals, diapers, and babysitting for a single mom? Volunteering at a pregnancy center? Likely none of the above. The pro-life movement needs to be more focused on solutions like above and not electing people. Maybe one day there will be enough resources available where no one will feel they have to abort, which would be great, but until then there is a lot of work to be done.

Yeah, the worst part about it is that people care so much about life until the baby is born and then the baby, and the mom are on their own in there eyes after that. At least for a lot of people including my parents and a lot of the churches I grew up in.

Also in a lot of places planned parenthood is the only option for a lot of womens health. They closed the one down where my friend lives in Indiana after so much protesting and the place literally didn't even offer abortions. Also a lot of pro life people are on the side that thinks having health insurance is bad for people.

Idk. I get it but I don't see the love sometimes. My dad is one of those christians that thinks people who bomb abortion clinics are awesome people.

Yeah, I am unfortunately in the minority of christians who doesn't view politics as a solution to abortion. But puting the issue on legality is a lot easier than personally being part of the solution so a lot of people go that route. The american church is not ready for the results of ending legal abortion and thats a reality that I hope to someday see change but its a loooong ways out.

Sounds bad. Feel bad for women in TX as well as women in my family, though they have no business in the state of texas.

Honestly I believe that in the US you should be able to do whatever you want and certain religious beliefs shouldn't be able to dictate the lives of others. There are also certain situations where it shouldn't illegal, and those where after a certain amount of time it should become illegal.

I think it's a political statement more than anything. Abbot is trying to win support from right-wing voters and draw attention away from his flubs during the Winter Storm catastrophe and higher-than-national-average rate of Covid deaths. Elections are coming next year and he needs some positives to put next to his name. Give the red voters what they want.

It's sad because the law fails to address the needs of women who seek abortion in the first place. It strips women of a constitutional right (not my words - it's per the Supreme Court in Roe v. Wade) and it doesn't offer any solutions or alternatives. Statistically speaking, women seeking an abortion will find another method to get what they are looking for. Unfortunately, those methods can be extremely dangerous. Regardless of political or religious affiliation, both sides can agree that basic constitutional rights are undeniable. Abortion is just as much a right as the Right to Bear Arms or Right to Free Speech (again - not my words, it's legal precedent under the 14th Amendment).

The law was deliberately written so that courts cannot challenge its legality. The NYT did a great piece on how it snuck past the Supreme Court. The SC voted to dismiss the case simply because there was no legal standing to vote on it. It's a slippery slope. Other conservative states are passing similar laws. Same-sex marriage could also be outlawed through this legal loophole. Additionally, a blue state like Massachusetts or California could use the same loophole and ban firearms just as easily as Texas effectively banned abortions.

I firmly believe that states shouldn't be able to deny human rights. This belief exists beyond my political leanings. I predict that one of the many lawsuits against this Texas law will be picked up by the Supreme Court and the Justices can give this issue proper attention.

I was waiting for my plane at eagle vail airport when they announced loading for a flight to Texas. I looked over and saw full grown men playing dress up as cow boys and women wearing full length fur coats. Wasn't one or two of them there were multiple people dressed like this and none of them knew each other. They lined up in pride that they were going back to Texas, while everyone else was looking at them asking are these people for real?

I gave a friend a bunch in Indiana a few years ago. Mentioned planned parenthood and hers had gotten shut down even though they didn't do abortions there.

But yeah the free condom thing is pretty sweet. Also weird that a lot of people against abortion also are against people having access to free condoms.

Maybe you should ask yourself why you're more concerned about what women do with their bodies than about the 400,000 children currently in the foster care system. Maybe you should ask yourself why you support republicans who want to force women to give birth even in the cases of rape and incest.

Let me know when the Dems start enacting policies that mirror the Taliban, when their supporters attack the Capitol, when their party actively supports destroying democracy and when they elect a reality TV star conman draft dodging child rapist who only eats fast food and insults the armed forces.
