Skaters still go big, why cant skiers

Skiing got soft. Skateboarding is has never stopped progressing. Skiing got really pussy. All of you that encourage going slower and turning more are a bunch of pussies. Fuck you @hoodcrew, fuck you @theBunch, you influenced all these kids to be wavy or whatever and now ski content sucks ass. Fuckin props to the homies that still ski like a boss and go big and aren't trendy little bitches. peace. /summerNS

tbh as someone who skates and skis, average skating will always be inherently more metal than average skiing. i ❤️ skiing tho because i hate busting myself up on concrete.

Most skaters I know don't ride anything bigger than a curb.

Also in skiing hitting a 40ft dfd or a 25ft jump is considered "small".

Because if a skater lands half rotated backside 180ing a 16 stair, they’re gonna have a sore tailbone. If a skier lands half rotated on a 40 footer it’s an edge catch to concussion, collarbone and shoulder injury. There’s a reason the average skate pro doesn’t drop a street movie with nothing but massive street rail shots. Both sports have their gnarly aspects and this thread is stupid.

I'd argue that a 16 stair is a very easy way to get a bad concussion, shoulder injury, whatever. And in skiing, the only possible concussion (was drunk, didn't go to the doctor, instead went to the bar...) I've had due to landing on a jump was probably on a 60+ foot really bad double attempt landing at the bottom of the jump.

Fortunately I have only had two bad crashes skating so far, but both of them hurt a lot more than the majority of my plethora of ski crashes. Sliding downhill, and on snow that encourages sliding, allows energy to be conserved and let's you move instead of crushing a bone or muscle. On concrete or rails while skating, there is definitely no cushion. Skate parks are nice due to the smooth concrete allowing sliding, but how often are the worst crashes actually at skate parks?

I'd say the gnar factor of skiing comes with the higher speeds, but even then it's not as bad as skating simply due to the nature of the environment you are riding in

But like you do have a point and I think its because it's inherently more fun to swerve and do safe tricks than literally cripple yourself trying to be big and gnarly.That being said I made a thread about this a while ago and people showed me some movies where people still go big, it's not the focus of the sport atm but there are still people doing it for sure

That's what a mix of skipping leg day for 2 years and being fairly drunk will do to ya.. unfortunately the beer blanket made it fairly painless

I think we’re missing the main point here. Skiing and skateboarding couldn’t be more different in my opinion. The culture, the accessibility to the sport, what is viewed as success. Different factors and just different people in general.

This thread is salty to the max but comparing the two just seams a bit off base to me.

we ruined skiing. I'm so happy to see this day after many years of swerving around doing stupid tricks at the mountain. I knew we were heading in this direction after the bunch dropped Finess, and to see it finally here is truly a blessing.

And all the old timers complain about how much they hate it, and how Instagram killed video parts, and how lame all the trends are nowadays. It’s the exact same fucking conversation.

Hood crew def wasn’t no pussies. Also it’s easier to find the rage in skating cuz it’s real easy to session something. It takes a good hike session and a limited amount of time to find the hype in skiing

Newschool like bunchs is good, has own style and vision, mainstreem sucks and mainstreem create pussies who ski powder only. Skating is similar to freestyle, culture and peoples are lovely and we both love street. I think we should do whatever makes you happy and swim as long as possible on this vave YOU create in your head/life, and Fuck mainstream please.

Skateboarding took charge of their industry, and developed ways for top pros to get paid for life. It took decades of community building to create the conditions that made it possible.

There are independent companies and events in skiing working in the same way, but the community's not at the point where they can run shit. With less history and accessibility than skateboarding, maybe it won't happen for skiing.

The last two Stept movies were literally a case study on how mentally and physically fucked it is to chase the progression of Street Skiing to dangerous levels. I actually gave away my copy of Mutiny because I couldn't bring myself to enjoy it.

we ended up at a point where that became base jumping, that's why it changed. People went bigger than them, but past a certain point you can't land. Plus didn't we have someone this year go as big as sethmo on a backie and stomp, Tanner Bourdeau I believe

I think the sendy/non sendy thing is like a pendulum. Skiers like candide and Simon dumont went as big as they possibly could at the consequence of their physical health. Then we saw the emergence of style as we know it today with skiers like casabon or even wallisch. Then we went really far one way with stept and winches in urban skiing, etc. Then we saw people doing silly little turns on benches. But, I think that era is passing and people are incorporating elements of that into their skiing. Just like how tophaloaf isn’t all over your insta feed, but Oscar weary is. I think people are slowly moving away from super swervy skiing towards going big again. Just like how backcountry skiing is the newest trend
