asparagusIndia is doing so poorly because they have a miniscule amount of vaccines proportionate to their population and they also just had a massive religious event that caused a second wave. The problem is that only 3.1% of their population is vaccinated.
That's just part of it. Their government has fucked up the response in countless ways. First and foremost, they've been promoting and trying to use treatment regimens that have not been studied or validated in a clinical study. Second, they decreased their stock of oxygen, medical, and PPE supplies in the winter as they felt like they were over the worst of it. Third, they started exporting vaccines rather than make sure their own population was vaccinated. Finally, their incredibly inefficient and crappy public healthcare system was never designed to handle this kind of strain and as a result has more or less collapsed as things continue to get worse.
Needless to say, if HCQ was a valid prophylactic treatment option, things probably wouldn't be this bad. Fact of the matter is, it's not.

You do realize that this would be a non issue if everyone got the vaccine as soon as it was available right? To say that the source of vaccine hesitancy is shame from liberals completely ignores the fact that everyone started on the equal playing field of having the personal choice to get it.
Its a fact we are seeing vaccination rates fall along party lines now and you can't just blame the libs for it. If conservatives didn't want public health to be a political issue they probably shouldn't have demonized our head of infectious diseases and medical advisor to the president at the start of a pandemic that has since killed 600,000 Americans.

Actually, we have a great exit plan (the vaccine), but a large portion of our population isn't following it. It's like being in a movie theater that's on fire, and 30% of the people there are running in the opposite direction from the exits because they are scared of going outside.

We don’t need everyone to get vaccinated to go back to normal. It’s more like a bunch of people at a movie theater burning the theater down because the theater has termites.
I feel like a lot of the people that are very vocally against masks and vaccines just have control issues or arrested emotional development. COVID hit us all with so much uncertainty and powerlessness that people lashed out in weird ways - insisting on going maskless gave a chance to assert free choice. I understand reticence over getting the vaccine until you've researched it sufficiently, but refusing to get vaccinated because of risks that were WAY outnumbered by COVID is pretty unreasonable. It's incredibly sad that countless high-risk people who did everything that they could to stay safe lost their lives because others' wouldn't wear a tiny piece of fabric.

There are a few good reasons why anti vaxxers exist and why they are putting up so much fight over something that is so well researched and understood by academia. Its less politicized than you think.
1. People cant tell the difference between fantasy and real life anymore. Im making a point that people watch so many movies and interact with others so much less in the last 10 years. Reality TV makes life look so amazing that they think people actually act this way in public, so try to re-enact conflicts to make them feel like a TV character in their own show. Social media lets them act out, practice the behaviour and get the attention they were craving for. Once they built up this alternate understanding of the world and of themselves that way, they will try to reenforce that fantasy by getting an echo-chamber going in real life. The results is public shaming which reverts them back to social media to gain more confidence about their fringe opinions. To prove their fantasy is correct; they will scour the internet for days to find any article to back up their fantasy when the truth of reality is the first page on google search. This cycle repeats until the fantasy has become their identity.
2. The education system failed them. Science litteracy is the basis to understand advanced technological advancements. Sadly, without high school math and sciences, there is no basis to understand the principles nor how to read periodicals. Even worse, we are constantly reminded how math and siences are hard and there is no point of it in daily life, so everyone drops the option. Now we got a group of uneducated people preaching “news” articles and 5th party essays to describe their fantasy. They make huge leaps in logic because they never took philosophy and have to turn every discussions into verbal fist fights due to lack of format. From all this lack of fundamentals, they feel this “have to win” at all costs.
Knowledge is also a derivative that may be applied to more than one field. Im a mechanical engineer, but the laws of chemistry and physics can be applied to ecology, economy, statistics and health sciences. Its doesnt make me an expert outside my field, but it gives me access to understand the science behind everything.
3. The me culture destroyed them. We have been raised by boomers or millenials where performance is everything. You have to “win” discussions, have more stuff than the other and be a straight up asshole when things dont go their way. Its no longer how how much you gain from a discussion, but how much you dominate the other. They will go as far as lying to get the attention they seek, even as its a destructive belief. Notice the anti vaxxers protest sign? “ You cant silence ME”, “Dont mess with MY freedom”, “No vaccines for ME”... it all revolves around ME and not whats best for everyone.
Put all those points together and it catches most of conspiracy theorists. Lack of exposure to real life, lack of any basic knowledge in the topic and a deep desire for attention and acceptance from a group are behaviors that seem consistent with fringe beliefs.
So how can this be fixed?
Philosophy teaches that these people are too far gone and nothing will change their minds (living in an alternate reality). You cant reason with them due to lack of knowledge and you will be attacked because they have to be right. So rational people are blocked on all sides from getting through.
We have to rely on social systems. Dont elect people who push these conspiracies, elect boring people who are experts in fields.. Educate yourself too on real science and not pseudo, prepare yourself by hearing a conspiracy and pre emptively have real relatable arguments on the ready. Remember that they have a limited amount of research so their talking points will always seem the same.
I think some people won't get vaccinated because they're stubborn, start out not getting it for whatever reason then later they might think it's not such a bad idea but won't out of pride and stubbornness, basically dysfunctional but it's they're right not getting it.

FDA regulates everything to shit but not mRNA. mRNA has been around a long ass time and never got approved even tho its proponents say it can even be custom tailored to treat cancer. its still not approved so we can't sue the feds when our kids are born with microcephaly

Uh....yeah it regulates mRNA. Moderna, Translate Bio, Gilead, Acturus, and obviously BioNTech have all had early phase trials using mRNA-based treatments which had to be examined and approved by the FDA before being used in humans. It's not like the FDA only examines the final Phase III data before making a decision about a therapy. They have input from Phase I through approval and even to Phase IV/post-marketing surveillance.

Yes, companies and individuals have said mRNA has the potential to be used as a cancer treatment and possibly for other rare diseases. However, as most companies, scientists, and governmental bodies have recognized is that finding the correct dosage strengths for mRNA products is REALLY FUCKING HARD. As such, most companies turned their focus to lower hanging fruits, like vaccines, where dosage strength doesn't need to be as high to have a therapeutic effect.
