Or calling everything gay in general?
I get that steve stept is all about trolling but come on dude. It's 2021. That's the best you got?

NoSkillsCrewGay is not an "identification". I do not "identify" as gay. I am gay. I did not choose to be gay.
Yes conversations about homophobia should be informed by the people subject to it (gay people) just as any conversation about prejudice / discrimination should be informed by the people subject to it.
I believe the arrogance goes for you here because you presume to have any frame of reference on the way homophobia affects the gay community and are choosing to say that because you don't think this is offensive I shouldn't be offended.
Yes a gay person addressing homophobia is homophobic. Love it. Love this look for you.
You think gay people chose for gay to have a negative connotation? You think I want that? Cool.
I also never said saying something or someone is gay is universally negative. In the context of Stepp's post it was clearly used in a negative connotation. Saying ski racing is gay is very different than saying there are gay ski racers. I said in this context I felt that Steve's joke was homophobic. I also said that I dont think steve is homophobic. But non-homophobic people can accidentally do homophobic things.
This is the extent of energy I will spend on this. So argue away.
BedBugDougYou've resorted to arguing semantics. identify or not whatever, you knew what I meant. I agree with a lot of what you just said except for when you called me arrogant. I am not the one seeing myself as the higher power here, that's you. Also, to say I have no frame of reference for the gay community is ridiculous dude, you have no idea what my frame of reference is.
Aren't we trying to gain a wider acceptance for the gay community? Don't you think it would go further to not bitch about inconsequential things? A decent metaphor is to look at a friend group, the only reason friends fuck with each other is to get under their skin and get a reaction, doesn't mean they aren't a valued part of the group. And I think as a society we are capable of calling out homophobia. 99.99 percent of the people in the world are united against the pieces of shit at the Westboro Baptist Church. What they do is harmful and everybody knows it.
Everybody could use a little thicker skin for little shit like this.
theabortionatorJust stop dude

TOAST.You are truly ignorant if by implying that 99.99% of people being against the fucks at the Westboro Baptist church means that 99.99% of people are okay with gay people and would call out homophobia.
Fucking with your friends is great, I do it all the time, i also stop when i see it getting under their skin cuz I'm not a complete asshole.
Getting back to the original topic, put it this way. If I tell a racist joke that means its racist no matter if anyone that hears it is offended. Same with calling something gay when it's used in a negative way.
You can never please everyone but it's not hard to put a little effort into not being a dick or admitting something you used to do was wrong and trying to change your ways. If your putting in an honest effort and someone still gets pissed, fuck em, but this isnt the mountain you should be dying on buddy.
DesertStixI don’t understand people who refuse to acknowledge the plight of another marginalized group. Like, it doesn’t matter if YOU think it’s offensive.
skiermanI FUCKING KNOW, RIGHT!? ITS GOD DAMNED, FUCKING 2021!!!!! FUUUUUUCK!!!
DesertStixI don’t understand people who refuse to acknowledge the plight of another marginalized group. Like, it doesn’t matter if YOU think it’s offensive. I used to be guilty of calling stuff “gay” and definitely engaged in homophobic “locker room behavior” that I thought was harmless. As I grew up and realized the unintended consequences and full weight of it all, I simply stopped using the verbiage. Like, it’s not difficult at all. And even though I wasn’t actively sitting around disliking gay people or wishing harm upon them, I totally acknowledge my behavior contributed to a society that marginalizes that community.
skiermanI FUCKING KNOW, RIGHT!? ITS GOD DAMNED, FUCKING 2021!!!!! FUUUUUUCK!!!
Craw_DaddyI mean what is the plight of gay people at this point in time? Some people don't like them? damn, that sucks. guess what? some people don't like me either. Make an effort to show your not a thin-skinned pussy and I'll make an effort to not be such a dick. This thread is some thin-skinned pussy shit. sorry
DesertStixI’m definitely not qualified to be the best source on this but they still face discrimination in places we don’t. Some people may not like you based on interactions. That’s completely different than a portion of our society not liking you for absolutely nothing you have done. Just the way you were born. You’re definitely not sorry lol and it’s too bad you think progress is “pussy shit” 🤷♂️

Craw_Daddyalso this is just fantastic. you "acknowledge" it but ADMIT you don't know enough about it to explain it. Maybe the issue here is you bite on to any little thing that makes you seem compassionate for the sake of stroking your own ego instead of really trying to understand the thing you support.
Craw_Daddythought policing isn't progress and they don't face discrimination under the law. nice non answer followed up with some virtue signaling. you pussy.
theabortionatorNothing like 2 homophobic assholes to convince people that homophobia isn't a thing.
Things are way mellower these days but responses in threads like these show just how shitty a lot of people still are.
Imagine still being casually racist or homophobic these days. Skierman can tell ya'll what year it is.
Hate has a way of lingering around. Change in general is weird sometimes. The people that accidentally say some shit once in a while because they're used to it, are generally more like "oh fuck my bad". Shit happens, those people are cool. The people that are assholes in threads like this because the world would end if they had to change, are just assholes.
Between doug and craw daddy it's obvious how a couple of shitty people can make an otherwise decent group of people seem shitty.
This is why the gay dude, or black guy at your work probably didn't say anything. Because you're such assholes about it it wouldn't have been worth it unless they were leaving that job.
Crawdaddy yelling because he's an ass that want's to be able to say homophobic, probably racist too. Then calling everyone pussies for pointing out the obvious.
Yo skierman, what year is it again?
skiermanLOL your thread is shit
TheMoostafianI don't think any person or group of people should be off limits when it comes to being made fun of. I genuinely believe that no one here dislikes gay people for being gay (but if they do, fuck 'em).
The idea that the person/people who are offended by certain speech or jokes should be the ultimate authority on whether or not others can use that speech/joke seems ridiculous to me. I'm not saying their opinion shouldn't be taken into account, but if you refrain from saying anything that will offend people, you might as well cut your tongue out.
@theabortionator do you actually think that people who use the phrase, "that's so gay" genuinely have something against gay people? I think it's just a kind of dated figure of speech, but I also think it's funny to say in certain context (like when I said it earlier in this thread).
Me using that joke doesn't mean I'm homophobic, the same way that I'm not racist for telling my black friends that only buying 1g of weed at a time and only smoking blunts is "the blackest thing I've ever seen".
Also, if you can't see the humor in two gay dudes on a skiing website getting upset about people calling skiers gay, idk what to tell you lol.
theabortionatorThe weird thing has been the two gays dudes being pretty calm and laying out some facts that are pretty straight forward while some guys freak out for no reason about not being able to say something homophobic.
It's straight forward and obvious. If you want to be an asshole, be an asshole. It's kind of sad though.
DesertStix40 a g is literally an affluent white kid meme

TheMoostafianOkay, so you can say I'm an asshole for saying that, that's fair. The whole point of the joke was to be offensive, but homophobic or racist is inaccurate. It seems to me that your definition of homophobic is: anything that offends a gay person. Just because someone offends you with their speech doesn't mean that they think less of you or have some type of disdain for homosexuals.
Here is a question for you:
If a gay person said exactly the same things as me in this thread, would you still consider it homophobic?
Also, you didn't answer my first question. I'm actually curious bc I want to better understand your thought process here.

TheMoostafianI'm not sure what you're getting at here.

DesertStixThat your “stereotype” example about a black person is ironically a popular Internet meme about affluent white kids

theabortionatorThe point of the joke was to take a stab at ski racers. Not just generally being offensive. Obviously steve had second thoughts took it down, good on him. I don't think it was intended to be homophobic he was just posting some content. Way cooler of him than arguing for 4 pages that saying anything like that can't be homophobic because it doesnt offend you, a gay guy you worked with once doesn't care, and everyone that's offended is a pussy.
As far as the next part I'm clearly talking about the people in this thread, not steve. The people just trying to push the bullshit in this thread even if "yo im liek trolling dude" are probably a bit homophobic and i wouldn't be surprised if they were a bit racist too.
Where was anybody talking about this.
You're literally arguing that caling something gay to be demeaning by comparing other people to the gays which are clearly inferior to people like you is not homophobic.
If you're trying to suggest that it isn't demeaning to gays, why would it be a joke.
It's straight forward.
As far as your question. No, not necessarily but showing an unwillingness to change, consider other people, and arguing for 4 pages about it.... There's probably something there.
Two gay people in this thread as well as a bunch of other people said "hey guys that's whack" and you guys have ignored that. I don't see the point of hypotheticals if we're ignoring simple logic.
It's legit sad how shitty some people still are about this issue.
Craw_DaddyI mean what is the plight of gay people at this point in time? Some people don't like them? damn, that sucks. guess what? some people don't like me either. theabortionatorJust stop dude
BedBugDougMe and my friends do not stop when it gets under their skin, in fact more people join in and we lay it on harder. Sometimes it results in straight up fist fights. Next minute everything is good. And I do think that most people are totally fine with gay people. It will never be 100 percent, same with racism. Since the beginning of time there have been racists and homophobes and there always will be. But there is becoming less and less of them and at this point the vast majority knows that they are assholes. And I think that you can tell racist jokes and homophobic jokes without being a racist or a homophobe.
DesertStixYou and your friends sound like a lot of fun
skeirmanThis thread sucks and OP is a fucking knob for trying to imply the post or Stepp is homophobic. This kind of bullshit virtue-signal-policing is literally killing comedy.

theabortionatorFunny enough, or actually not that funny have seen/heard some pretty homophobic shit between now and the last this thread was up.

mattytruonce you get a little older, see more of the world, and witness unfair violence against people in situations where it doesnt need to be happening you just get tired of ignoring it.
