- lodge food
- vail timeshares

tri_photoHaving to spend time to get a park pass. They literally give them to anybody with a pulse, what's even the point
SendyMcSendyfaceIts kinda bullshit, but I also kinda like it. My local hill is really close to Toronto, and gets tons of kooks who don't know what they are doing. Before they got rid of it, the park pass was like $10 for the season, and you had to watch the park smart video. In return, you got a park that was exclusively populated by people who were at least somewhat serious about riding park, or learning park shit. When they got rid of it, the park flooded with people who haven't the faintest idea what its about. All the usual shit, people sitting in blind landings, snaking dudes, hanging around in dumbass spots. You could make a year's worth of PCHY content from a few days worth of laps. That shit is dangerous. I've been bitched at by parents cause I almost smoked their kids sitting in blind landings, I've eaten it on rails and come close to hitting people, and I've given my fair share of shit to people being morons.
Don't get me wrong, I love seeing new riders learning park stuff, and hyping them up, but when the majority of the people actually in the park are motherfuckers from Mississauga who have no clue about etiquette or safety, it gets real old, real quick. Gimme my damn park pass back.
ericformanAgreed. If they just hand them out when you pick up a season pass or whatever it is kinda of pointless, but even a tiny thing like watching a video goes a long way to keeping things safe. Eldora, for example, has a pretty rad park set up but it is right by the learning area and frequently gets people wandering in with their kids and sitting in landings, etc.
dant02This issue arises when someone who didn’t watch the video and get the pass sneaks into the park or gets by whoever is sitting at the top of the park. My local hill used to have a park pass system and frequently the park monitor was smoking a j in the woods when he was supposed to be checking for park passes. When the kid gets past the attendant and gets fucked up the mountain is held responsible and sued the shit out of. From a liability perspective it is easier for the mountain to let everybody in and just stick up a million look before you leap signs.

Brule.Paying $800 for a season pass at West Mountain when you could just pay a similar amount for a fucking Ski3 pass and have access to more terrain.
theabortionatorLol fuck west. Great location oretty solid vert and terrain but they suck so fucking hard. At least they're $ backing let them throw money at the lifts etc because that needed work. Never worked for shitties people though.
Possibly the reason i may never live on the east coast again. Moved back from co to try and make a legit park there. Knew the chance of getting boned was big, but didn't expect to be as bad.
Some of the worst people in the ski industry at any mountain.

freeskibum82i'll let you in on a secret. that's been the case for hardgoods too for years.. graphic change is it on 90% of skis every year. Companies only change them like every 7 years.
MonnorCartinSame goes for skis. 90% Don't change year over year yet can get last years heavily discounted
Brule.Tbh I had no clue they even raised the price on the season pass to that much until I came back home from my first semester of college four years ago.
Speaking of their park, I totally forgot about that one season that they built a 90-foot booter to flex about it online while the rest of the park was suffering according to comments on their social media. Might’ve been the same season that they started charging that price for their passes but at the end of the day it seems like they prioritize their racing “academy” over anything else because the owners’ kids are part of the program.
Did have some good times there dicking around on Friday nights with a free midweek pass they gave me for being on the ski team in high school. First time smoking weed was there when they had fire on the mountain.
dshilandDidnt they have a pretty decent park in like 08-10 maybe? when I was young i remember going up the double and seeing someone getting filmed seemed pretty legit considering. Didnt they also have rail jams and some small comps. I havent skied there in years but last time I was there I dont even know if there was a park
theabortionatorMountain's snow reporting.
Some girl drops her snow cone in the parking lot and motherfuckers be claiming 17" powder day.
Brule.Skied 46” of freshies at Whiteface when Stella hit the east coast hard back in March 2017. Best day I’ve had on skis in my entire life so far.
Johnnyskiguy3My local hills half day pass is not half the price of a full day
SofaKingSicki've never seen one that's literally half price, though your example is prob a higher percentage of the full day price than i usually see. however damn those are amazing prices period! might be a tiny mtn but still
ericformanYea, issue is a lot of people only ski half day anyway so if they made it considerably cheaper they would lose a ton of money. They have to make it almost as expensive so people say "hey what the heck its only $15 more for a full day may as well get it in case we want to ski some quickly freezing machine-made with limited visibility at 3pm on a cold December evening." But then they also want to attract an additional audience that otherwise wouldn't buy a full days pass to eke out a bit more revenue, hence the reason for its existence at all.

swagmasterflexThat storm was unreal, at least for the east coast. By far the most fun I've had with any snowfall in my life.
BLandz_Me paying $800 for a pass just for some fucktard to tell me I can’t use my poles if they don’t have baskets on them. “You can accidentally stab somebody, or yourself if you fall” he says. Like ya man I can stab someone with a pair of baskets on too you fucking autistic nazi. Not to mention poles arent even sharp in the first place.

SofaKingSickMost $700+ skis, especially park skis. Things better literally perform or last twice as well as the myriad of quality skis available for way less and from what I've seen (most freeride skis in the past 20 years) that is not usually the case

Just found this gem from spring 2011. I believe this is right when we left/the paychecks stopped.
Some killer memories there.
Felt good to go back there even though I got boned and built some new features that they eventually broke and repair old features that they probably broke again and try and get something decent together with no staff or budget. Built a cool setup for the spring rail jam at least before I dipped. Here's a shot from a day or two after. 2 of the new rails in it. One snapped when getting pulled out of the ice with a chain, and the other bent but I think still exists getting yanked out in the same fashion. Kind of a waste of a season tbh but at least I got to build this. I even put mulch in the planter box I built. Getting mulch in feb isn't that easy.
BiffbarfThis far and nobody has said day passes yet. Fuck day passes.
BigPurpleSkiSuitGloves and goggles that cost 200+dollars

SuspiciousFishHestra gloves are $160 but worth every penny in my opinion. They will last decades and once they mold to your hands they are so comfortable. I got a set back in 2006 and have beaten the hell out of them for over a decade including grabs, 40 mph hand drags on ice etc and they are still in good shape for the most part. I had to re-stich a small area on the thumb from doing grabs but beside that they are good to go.
SuspiciousFishThe asshole bus driver in Boulder CO, wouldnt let me bring my skis on the bus because "I could hit someone with them with the sharp edge". Thanks to that fucker I had to carry them 2 miles up the hill from the shop past Pearl Street back to the dorms.
DominatorJacquesThose three rails look so close together, it's scary!
theabortionatorIt's a plaza. that's how it's supposed to be. This was an event setup for a rail jam. Not the way the whole park was laid out.
Also wasn't much more space than what was there. Here's a couple others from different mountains.
For the smith grudge match at buttermilk.
showdown at oak.
Idk those rails were 7 feet apart. There were no issues. Nobody was crashing into the other features, people go one at a time. I built that shit all myself in a 23 hour day slept for 4 hours, a 22 hour day, slept for 5 or 6 hours, and then a 16 -17 hour day the day of the event. Finished one of the tube rails at 4 in the morning a few days before welding in a shop that was literally underwater(seems safe). Actually hand graded a the in run of the rails. Dragged the planter box that I built a few days before up got that set, fixed the adirondack chairs etc.
Shit was dope, rail distance was fine. If it wasn't a ropeline setup might have gone wider on those 3 but not by much. If you can't losely aim at a down rail you probably aren't hitting rail jam.
Not trying to be salty, put a ton into that one of free labor, and it was probably the best setup that place ever had. I think 35-45 hours of it was free labor, mtn gave me no help really.
Had a snow ledge under tube rail so you couldn't run into that and snag if you were really messing up but nobody did. Originally was going to do plywood panels of faux brick all over but that was going to be out of pocket both for materials and time. Actually probably would have done it but legit did not have the time.
I also used my own tools for everything, put a bunch of my own material and shit I bought that season in. Mountain boned me because it's run by assholes that think the ski industry is come place you can dick everyone. They've burned so many bridges with people and companies in a few years it's impressive.
I was gonna try and find a pic from another angle to show the lips, the cannon setup, the bank with the 21' tube , the up flat pole jam into the dfd etc but I'm blocked from the park instagram I guess.
Idk, too many words, and I'll shut the hell up but I stand by that that setup was absolute fire. Built as a one off for an event. Would build again.
DominatorJacquesYea, okay I get it. You must type like a demon, or use voice stuff! Photos can be misleading.
Stuff set up for a competition surly is not like a public park.
