Official SPLAT thread

SPLAT is a gap jumping contest, winner will get skibladezzz, and there will almost assuredly be some other prizes along the way!

Rules:

1. You have to jump and ride out of a gap as defined below:
If your gap does not have an obstacle you are clearing, it must have: A defined takeoff zone, a low point between the takeoff and landing, and a Lip (not a knuckle) on the landing. A disaster will be considered a gap if you are gapping at least two kinks on a rail and landing will be the spot in which you land on the rail, not the end of the rail. A park jump does not count, nor does a straight cliff.
2. One point for will be awarded for every 5 feet gapped
3. Gap size will be determined by the poster first, judge (myself) and members second if necessary (as in you're overestimating or underestimating).
4. Points may only be earned on the same gap once per season per competitor, but you may submit as many different gaps as you would like for this competition. Your total score is a cumulative total of your submissions on the year.
5. Gap is measured from takeoff to landing
6. All footage must be from this season
7. Multipliers: 1.25x multiplier for a gap over a harmful, but not deadly (to you) obstacle (a rope, or cattrack or jerry)
1.5x multiplier for a gap over a harmful and potentially deadly obstacle (road or stream or crevasse)

Competition Start Date: Dec 1st
Competition End Date: May 1st

Submissions are through the thread only, Leaderboard is based on your username

the season for good gaps is still coming up. IMO the best gap shots usually show up in the spring since that is when you can usually get the good combo of tons of snow and fast conditions. fresh dumps are not as good for speed or building jumps

I voted to include Tyler but that is just to motivate some people to post up some actual gaps to win. Tyler's clip is basically a shot of a guy jumping down a hill with some snow and grass or some other sort of flimsy plant so technically he gaps it and it is cool but there will be gap jumps that look way cooler in the spring when guys can get the speed to jump roads and creeks and crazy stuff

Just now getting some snow building to where I can build a jump got an awesome one coming , a tree up rooted in some glades and there’s a big uprooted stump to gap , glades r tight , steep, prob b hardpack , 15ft high , 50 linear feet

To everyone following this thread, I havent forgotten about it, I've just been working 60 hrs a week lately and doing school. It is a shame that prime gap season was cancelled. As such, I'm extending this until May 15th if you would like to submit gap footage.

The fwt didn’t postpone nor continue.


Declare a winner from submitted post, maybe give it a week or something so people can submit something they maybe weren’t gonna. Then have another contest next year, the splat contest becomes more legit when someone receives those blades from Jskis and may get some hype for next season. Make an edit from the posts, the prize giver , the winner, etc post up the advertising for next year

I saw that vid, crazy ish. Unfortunately with COVID we missed prime gap season. I gave the w and the blades to @Liam_j10 for his big gaps this year. If I do it again, it's gonna be on the gram so there will be more entries

I support this. There wasn't really a great submission rate on here anyway so anyone downvoting your response can stick it where the sun don't shine. Covid fucked everything this year. Interested to see how next year's contest goes (if it happens).

Its way easier to find a cliff to jump off then a gap. If you want more responses, you should combine the two. Maybe make it so gaps get double points or something.

I'm all cool with it being on the gram, but I'd like to also still be able to submit on ns as I don't really post on the gram. I'd be fine with the ns clips getting reposted on the gram, I just don't wanna post shit myself

A favorite past time is simply hotlapping my favorite run( Peruvian at snowbird) what are y’all thoughts of a vid contest for 2min hot laps? I think it would be pretty sick

i think insta is cool, needs to be a lot less rules, been following this thread since the start and still dont understand all of em

How bout this, all entrys can be dm'd to a splat account or posted on ns. Then you create a seperate bracket and can randomly generate put differant names together and have voting. I think voting is easier on insta stories, and would get more attention. If there enough entrys, we could even have a couple brackets. Even diferant brackets for cliff gaps, and road gaps. Insta would just get more coverage, i know we wanna "keep it core" but we got like 5 entrys last yr. Love the idea for this contest

Maybe one of us could just start a second contest, or change it to “ the newschoolers Freeride _____, have a few divisions, gaps, cliffs, rails , could also maybe have a secret Santa like thing where we all throw gifts into a prize pool, lots of us got tons of stickers etc... lil cool shit to add to the pot . We got all the companies that frequent newschoolers to pitch in , line, 4frnt, blister, On3p, moment , phunkshun probably many I’m unaware of at 6am.
