Guys get kicked out of skatepark during girls only sesh

found this on a skaters forum. Pretty pathetic.

“flew back to my hometown on Monday and was itching to go to the local park I grew up skating. Rolled up there yesterday, got told that from now onward every second Thursday of the month is a girls skate only day & that I had to leave.

Unfortunately got into an argument with a load of people there and ended up just skating the car park with the other dudes that were turned away. The people organizing it said that female skaters often get intimidated by guys skating the park, which I suppose I can't relate to being male myself. I've never witnessed any hostility towards female skaters at that (or any) park, but then again this is just my perspective.

Trying to work out whether or not my annoyance was justified? or am I overreacting

Its a privately funded park (however its unsupervised, free to enter and open 24/7) so its entirely legit for them to establish rules like this, but this a park I spent virtually every day of my youth in and I'm now finding myself being turfed out due to my gender. I suppose it pissed me off because I'm used to being able to roll up to the park whenever I please.”

I could just tell you “Um ackshually sweetie you’re allowed to use the park 98% of the time” like a typical sjw will.

This whole predicament just seems so bizarre and counterproductive to improving gender relations between skateboarders. Empowering girls to skateboard is totally fine and should be encouraged but this is such a poor way to go about it and will honestly just get angsty teen/young adult skaters to become bitter and resentful. And I know someone will say “Wah wah muh entitlement” but that’s not the point

Yeah. I actually believe these feminist me too movements are actually driven by anger.
I think the people who were responsible for kicking out the male skaters were doing it as a passive aggressive move because they are angry/frustrated that the avg girl cant skateboard for shit compared to the avg boy. So they did this to be passive aggressive against the boys at the skatepark because they resent the gap between male and female physical ability.
Things like this are only going to make feminists look like they are really just angry they werent born male.

Honestly this seems totslly valid to me. Every day is mens skate day. I know that some parks in seattle have girls skate time and it brings out tons of bad ass skaters and kids tryna get into skating that you dont see almost any other time. Sure it sucks to get kicked out of the park but ultimately it seems really constructive to the skate community.

Maybe for a few hours, but all day is bullshit. Might be the only day in the week the dude could skate, or only at this one spot for a day and really wanted to hit it

Seems like it would make more sense to call it girls night . Establish times but have it still open. Lets say "girls skate 2-5" or something. This would let people know that its a good time to skate if you're a girl looking to skate with girls and give people a target time to sort of tske over the park without making it a rule. Lits of people would avoid said times to ditch any crowds and many times the gurls could have said park ti themselves whenever.

I dig anything trying to get girls involved though but this might not be the best way imo. Also will make plenty of guys more salty rather than getting errbody skating together.

Everyday us anyones skate day. Honestly im new af and shit. I try and go when the parks arent crowded or stay away from better riders.

A beginner skate day would be cool but it would fuck over eveyone else just for being better. A targeted sesh for noobs could bring in more < intermediate skaters together without having to close the park to the better skaters. Better skaters might avoid if they want to get long runs without dodging people.

Private place csn do what ever they want but a full day seems like a shit strategy. Would make more sense even if it was a 4 hour window even 2 days a week. Would be better for the girls and the guys. But I still think it's a shot idea at least the way it's being done.

Their strategy to include everybody directly excludes the majority of the sport's participants. Fukn genius.

I like the idea of just having a target time for girl skaters to meet and I think abortionator is right, this would naturally dissuade others from going to avoid the crowd and gapers and whatnot. Yet they would not be completely barred from entrance.

I mean they could have just gathered up a bunch of girls who could skate together at the park at a certain time... not letting anyone else in is pretty stupid in my opinion. Within their right? Probably. But still dumb in my opinion.

Place in south lake is doing a girls night I guess. Just saw a post about it on facebook. But the park is literally just an indoor bowl and mini so I can see it. I've never been but I'm sure it gets busy sometimes and can be tough to get a drop.

I've seen girl only jams and events in the park (snow and skate) but they've never said no dudes, they will usually just take a section of the park for a bit which I don't mind but straight up excluding someone because of their gender is whack

im all for female empowerment and whatnot. one of my ex gf's started a girls skate day at the local here and every tuesday i would go to the skateparka nd it would be filled with all girls and it would be me and like one or 2 other dudes. we gave them their distance, and they had their fun. everyone wins.

i feel like that guy, and the group of girls from that post are both handling shit wrong. that just furthers the divide of skate sub cultures / cliques. girls only session for sureeee, but u cant bar everybody else from skating. thats just wrong. segregation type beat.

Also, most guys ive met at skateparks are friendly as shit. Even the skateboarders are friendly to me when im inlining. I dont buy that girls get intimidated by guys. They probable just want to be complemented on their ability even though they suck, even by girl standards.
Theres some really good female skateboarders out there, so girls who think they should be able to have the skatepark be their safe space need to just quit what they suck at.

On the one hand it sounds bullshit but on the other hand it's literally one day per month, I'm pretty sure you could stand to go to another part or sesh a street spot that day. The dude was writing like they were denying him the ability to relive his childhood when he could just go again the next day. If it was me I would just go to another place to skate and wouldn't argue with people about it.

Idk how to feel about the intimidation part cuz skaters can def look and act intimidating, but most young boy skaters have to get over that as well so idk if the women should just get a pass lol
