Not sure if its still a thing and its hike-only (and free), but Ruby Hill was fucking awesome when I lived in Denver and didn't want/have the time to make the drive up 70.

It is still a thing but temperatures never got low enough to make snow this year.

I'm surprised you can enjoy all the luxuries of your entitlement with your head jammed so far up your ass, you knob. Its very clear by your 2 hr estimate of drive time from Denver to summit you have never made that drive on the weekend, so keep it pinched. Although the people in this thread may come from lesser means than you, they have a far greater breadth of experience and considerably more brainpower than you will ever have.

To OP: There have been some versions of this kicked around over the years, some more or less successful (Echo, Eclipse Snow Park). I remember there being a bit of hype for a setup like this on the west side of Pikes Peak in one of the abandoned ski areas for Colorado Springs people, but it never materialized. Much colder at those elevations for snow making, and existing infrastructure for water and getting up the hill (Pikes Peak Highway). More related to Denver, I remember reading somewhere the horrors of the I-70 experience has actually stopped an appreciable number of frangers from skiing, so there is probably an existing market that will continue to develop over time. Its a super worthwhile idea that will keep gaining traction, so hopefully just a matter of time.

Well I guess I have spent my last couple of ski seasons living on Aspen mountain(#blessedlife) so it’s such a distance memory of having to commute to a ski hill I have completely forgotten the struggles that the average joe skier has to overcome just to get the simple joys of turning on snow.
I feel so ashamed as a skier and as member of Newschoolers.
Maybe it’s time for me to retreat into AT board and never ever be heard from again?

You come off as an entitled prick in the first one. Not everyone is able to afford to live where they want whether it’s the cost of living, lack of jobs or other reasons. You obviously have forgotten what it’s like to not live in the richest area of the country and it shows.

I moved out to Snowmass in 2014; been going out there with my family since 1994. Why rag on some high schooler, college student or someone who doesn’t have the means to either make it to the ski resorts or who can’t afford to spend their monthly paycheck on a hotel, gas, food and a lift ticket? Traffic on I-70 is a fucking joke even on a good day. You throw a snowstorm in there and try telling anyone in Denver that it’s a “2 hour drive”. You wouldn’t even make it to A-Bay in 2 hours 😂

People like you are a dime a dozen in Aspen. The aire of entitlement in that valley is fucking sickening to anyone who actually likes to ski. The RFV has constantly been going downhill because of rich assholes with the same mentality you have. /rant

Google Arapahoe East. It was a tiny little ski hill in genesee park like 5 minutes from the outskirts of Denver. The lift line and runs are still there and it is a north facing shaded spot that holds snow. Now days theres like massive mansions all over it but if someone with deep pockets wants to take a wrecking ball to those.... haha

Theres a reason Echo has really struggled to keep operating....
