Replying to Endless frustration with new Dalbello Krypton 110 boots (shinbang, feet falling asleep etc)
I want to die.
After years of shinbang-free skiing in great boots, I finally got fitted for a new pair of Dalbello Kryptons a couple weeks ago, after not being able to tolerate the pain from my old packed out liners any longer. They fit like a dream in the shop, and I was convinced I was going to have the best year ever in my new pair of send-shoes.
Skiing them was a different story. Once on the slopes, the only way to keep my heel from lifting is to crank the buckles down so god damned tight that my feet fall asleep. The heel lifting didn't present itself as an issue in the shop, but once I could apply leverage with a ski in an aggressive turn, it was super annoying. I couldn't tell if this was an issue with the flex of the boot itself, or just a fit issue. It didn't feel like my heel was lifting inside the liner itself, but instead it felt like the liner was sliding back and up in the boot ever so slightly. Since then I've been cranking the buckles down crazy tight to get a solid fit, which is insanely annoying.
I'm fairly confident the boots are the right size, since I was measured and everything. I checked the shell fit myself, and I've got the standard 2 fingers of room in the heel.
The other issue is that shinbang has made a return. I do NOT ski backseat at all, and I've been skiing with my boots crazy tight, so I have no idea where it's coming from. Much of my time is spent in a super forward stance and charging fairly hard. Could this be a result of charging fast through bumpy trails? If your boots fit right... this shouldn't cause shinbang, right? I've also been skiing more this season than any other – could this be a result of more ski days, and more specifically, more consecutive ski days? I ski about every other day/every 2 days, with a few consecutive days here and there.
Any recommendations? I've been considering getting some thicker Intution liners as I've heard great things about them, and coupling the new liners with some Booster straps. My local boot fitter here kinda sucks eggs so I'm somewhat left on my own to do my own tweaks.
