larilinesignDamn! Sunshine Village blew my balls off! Delirium and Wild West freeride zones were fkn insane. Some of the gnarliest terrain I've ever ridden.
Overrated? Sugar Bowl was all hyped up, but I was kinda underwhelmed. Palisades were closed, so I guess that might skew my opinion.
I really haven't been truly exhilarated by anything in Cali. Kirkwood was lame, but I don't think its really hyped anyways.
mystery3Superbowl and Kirkwood??? I'd say those are two of the most underrated mountains, granted I'm a West coast guy but where are you skiing that has better in bounds terrain than those two?
deathcookieI know this post is two years old, but I thought I'd comment.
I agree about Squaw. That place was a huge disappointment for me.
Nevertheless, I'll disagree about Whistler vs Blackcomb. I spent four years skiing those hills, and imo, Whistler was the better hill on most pow days.
SegsxiI know I will get hate for this but Mt Bachelor despite it’s size is actually not that great most of
the year,
it’s not crazy steep only in certain spots, the conditions are super hard pack/ icy 4 out of 7 days of the week, there is always a lot of fog so despite it’s size you may only get to shred a fraction of the whole mountain. Their jumplines are super Lippy meaning they send you high but if you are into doing Rodeos it is convenient.
Man oh Man when it is a good day it is a Really Good Day.. Some of my favorite memories of skiing will forever be shredding the whole mountain in the mornjng bluebird, soft powder, and park laps/ parking lot parties in the afternoon

abar. That's the Mt Bachelor experience for sure, I love it though
thedarkwolfwhiteface, ny. they brag about the vert but honestly all the terrain is pretty mediocre.parks are ok tho.
a_burgerIn terms of parks I never really got the hype over Loon. Still a lot of fun and the build quality is top notch (every feature looks fucking beautiful) but the layouts feel a little weird to me every time I've gone and having to ride the gondi to lap LMP in it's full length is aids especially on the weekend. That said I'm mostly a rail skier and can't really comment on the big jump line, but it seems like there's always empty space next to it where they could throw some of their ridiculously large rail fleet.

eheathI like how "conditions" now portray if a ski resort is overrated, like every resort sucks when it doesn't snow like which resort do you guys ski where the conditions are always good?
Craw_Daddyfrom what I've seen interior BC and Montana are pretty much always good as long as you don't mind it being cold as fuck
eheathI mean if it doesn't snow for a week, the conditions get pretty bad at any resort, unless its 40 degrees and the snow softens up.
Craw_DaddyTrue, I've just noticed that those places usually have the jet stream nearby and stay pretty cold so they wouldn't get nearly as much of continental snowpack BS like you get in Colorado and Utah where you get large gaps between storms and heatwaves. they certainly get that kind of weather but just not nearly as much.
You'd probably know better than me or most people though

larilinesignHey curious about Bachelor, I just found out yesterday that they have 15 (?!) Woodward Terrain Parks. What does that even look like??

BigPurpleSkiSuitI have yet to have a true boilerplate day in LCC.
BigPurpleSkiSuitI want to go to la clusaz so bad
overweightmastrski Wentworth
overweightmastrski Wentworth
pinkcamo1000ok the park is pretty bad at wenny but the tree skiing is sick, I bet you can't stomp the mandatory cliff huck in the creek

The.FishI think most people on this site know this, but the back bowls at vail are some garbage. They are hyped up so much, but they are south facing so they end up being straight crust a lot. They get the infamous ridiculous lift lines. Finally, they aren't even steep. Id rather go to beaver creek on a pow day for sure.
SkibumsmithRevy is pretty overrated in my opinion. The layout is fucking retarded. There's so much potential with the terrain they have available but you spend all your time traversing to back to the stoke and ripper chairs. As far as resort skiing goes, Red, WH2O and kicking horse are much better options.
animatorEurope edition!
These are all places that are way overpriced, offer meh terrain, and everyone who skis there takes 3 runs, gets drunk at one of the mountain-side restaurants, and puts all of it on Instagram because they’re “influencers.”
1. Verbier
2. Courcheval
3. Gstaad
omIVSurprised you left off Kitz? Terrain is solid, but everything is too spread out and there are waaaay too many lambos.
saucemastrscottyI might get hate for saying this but majority of the time the weather at whistler fucking sucks it seems like it's super locked in a lot, snow can be super wet an thick and it's fucked expensive. However, after a fat dump it is pre nice
broken_skier0Whistler/Blackcomb is one of the top ten resorts in North America in terms of snowfall totals/probability of a powder day and has the largest vertical drop in North America. The nightlife is the best of any place I've skied at. If you're under 21, the drinking age is 19.
GrandThingsOkemo sucks. that is all
abar.Honestly timberline is hella overrated. Most of the clout comes from the summer operations (which are legendary obv), but the resort is flat and the parks are kinda mediocre. They don't know how to build jumps. Bachelor is better in every way (especially now with woodward), and if I lived in portland I'd def ski meadows over tline

ThAtDuDeNaTeThat's what I've always heard about timberline. I have a pass a Meadows. This year it hardly takes anything to make meadows overcrowded tho. They haven't actually limited the number of day passes they sell, as evidenced by the fact that the parking lots are still filling to capacity way before they lifts are open. They are now running the lifts at 1/3 capacity or less for "social distancing". So now all these thousands of people are just standing crowded together not distancing for 30+ minutes at each lift. They would be better off just to run 4 to a chair and reduce the amount of time people are exposed to each other in the ONLY place they need to be near each other at all

theabortionatorBeaver creek is underrated. Straight trash for park these days but some sick runs, low crowds, and untracked trees.
I temember getting deep pow in trees a couple weeks after snow storms.

LemuelI would say the same thing, but after working there for two years after college I know all the good spots. Okemo is dope if you know where to go. But everyone says that about every mountain. To everyone hating on certain mountains, ski them on a mid week when it's not crowded and you may get a different experience.
Now time to be a hypocrite. I do not like Stowe. I'm sure all the Stowe fanboys will pipe in to tell me why I'm wrong. It's an image mountain. I've always said that people ski at Stowe, so they can tell their friends that they ski at Stowe.
Keystone blows. Moving from Okemo out to summit to ski Keystone was almost a downgrade. I had fun there, night skiing is always a big plus for me. But I can't deal with crowds for such mediocre terrain.
DummyBearsI had one day where I was able to lap the four runner the day after 3ft of snow and it was honestly amazing. Only issue is those days are rare.
PeppermillRenoI mean the mountain itself is legit. The best mountain with a lift in New England. Its a bigger mountain than Vail which you barely notice from I-80 and wonder how is there a big ass ski area beyond what you see.
But yes days like that are not common.
For some reason I have absolutely shit terrible luck storm chasing at Stowe and Sugarloaf/SR. I think I've had a pass to Stowe 4 or 5 years total when I'd get a hotel the night before a storm it would always come in short. If I went out west they'd get dumped on of course and then not get snow again all winter. I've gone to the Loaf when the rain/snow levels are close and always gotten rain or just nothing. Never have any luck in Maine.
I think Brighton is small and don't understand its popularity. People gush over it like its better than the surrouding resorts while trashing PC/Canyons as not worth skiing.
DummyBearsHead farther north Jay usually seems to get more then predicted. I've also been really lucky over the last 4-5 years only caught one day that underperformed and it was at Cannon.
PeppermillRenoI always get my East Coast good luck in December and pick out the one place with more snow than anywhere else where you can duck the ropes on the blacks that aren't open not hit many/any rocks and basically get untouched every run on the best runs. Last weekend had this at Gunstock.
Also normally take a pre Xmas trip a week after Thanksgiving while expensive places are still cheap and looking back (Aspen/Whistler x2/Tahoe x3/Vail Beaver Creek) all of them were 100% open with multiple fresh days.
Can't always have the good fortune.
Is Jay running their tram this year? No Canadians means that is the place to go this year. Its so far and I kind of prefer Burke head to head to be totally honest its been a while. My pass is good at Cannon/WV/Gunstock/Cranmore.
So I want to do Jay after/before a day at Cannon and Saddleback one morning I wake up in North Conway.
animatorWas also at Gunny last weekend the day after the storm, snow was insane and late day park vibes were all time. Next time you’re there HMU dude always down to shred w an NS member
