Vail Resorts plans to buy Stevens Pass

What does this mean for those of us who ski at Steven's Pass? Have any of you had your home mountain bought up by Vail? What changed and were things better or worse than before?

First they came for our 2 dollar pbrs, and i didnt speak up because I wasn't a poor dirtbag.

Next they came for our parks, and I didnt speak up because terrain parks are dangerous.

Finally they came for my favorite restautant, and there was nobody to speak up because pbrs and terrain parks arent people.

at least we'll be able to ski whistler on the epic pass now and we never had $2 PBRs so we don't have that to lose but I also dread what is to come based off the park city bitching I've heard since their acquisition. Also, I think we can all expect highway 2 to be an absolute horror show gang-bang every weekend now (as if that wasn't already the case).

It means the end of any and all events previously ran by Stevens pass or third party events. (rail jams, flannel cup, banked slalom, pond skim, etc..)
It means the end of deals for kids, veterans, and locals- along with absurd lift ticket prices.
It means an overrun parking lot and very long lift lines.
It (most likely) means the end of or scaling down of the terrain park. (along with budget cuts)
It means a majority of under experienced drivers and under experienced skiers.
It means employees of Stevens pass will be forced to adopt a "standard" of operation that are not used to.

Overall it means the loss of the mountain's soul that so many of us have cherished for so many years.

RIP stevens pass.

Fuck Vail.

Ive never been to stevens pass but had considered working there. Hoping somce the parks seem to be on the rise that vr won't curb them much.


I still might move there at some point

Holy shit. Vail Resorts came into ski town to bring the epic pass and I literally screamed them and hit the epic pass right out of their hands. Yellow jackets started yelling and swearing at me and I slammed the door on them. I'm so distressed right now I don't know what to do. I didn't mean to do that to Rob but I'm literally in shock from the acquisition today. I feel like I'm going to explode. Why the fucking fuck is every resort on the epic pass? This can't be happening. I'm having a fuckingbreakdown. I don't want to believe the world is so corrupt. I want a future to believe in. I want Mountain Collective and Icon to fix this broken country. I cannot fucking deal withthis right now. It wasn't supposed to be like this, I thought Mountain Collective was doing well in the US???? This is so fucked.

They just bought Mount Sunapee in NH an hour away from me, hopefully the parks will get better but it's gonna get way more crowded in their 2 small lodges. Super fun mountain though got some fun runs with rollers, also bought Okemo in Vermont, yellow jackets are hitting the east.

Might be good for carinthia locals, hopefully they'll flock to Okemo now and probably Stowe with the epic pass. All the rich new York jerry's really suck at mount snow.

That’s where I ride and 100% agree, I get severe anger management with some of them lurking though the park just taking up space. “Hey honey want to take the kids down the trick park? I’m in the mood to ruin some kids line!”

So many stupid parents take their kid down Nitro only to almost die somewhere near the last jump, they need a designated resort, no avid skiers go just jerry's.

It's already packed and expensive, so Idk what would really change there. At least when Boyne took over Snoqualmie they started dropping major coin on improvements.

fuck Vail, Stevens was the place in washington, imo it had all types of terrain for everyone, they out on concerts and rail jams and sick events and it was local and contained you couldnt find that anyother place. It was special. Now the Vails corporate restructure could fuck all that up. God bless the lifties, and "the white mustache" Bruce Albert. The park was amazing the terrain was great and it was relatively cheap. Fuck you Vail eat a dick and stay away from mission ridge

Because it's close to Seattle which is the 2nd fastest growing city in America. You could purchase the area, not make a single improvement on and make an enormous profit because the attendance is only going to increase due to the population growth.

I was there. Yeah, it was called the '80s. Ford was President, Nixon was in the White House and FDR was running this country into the ground. I was bummin' in a hole-in-a-wall town in what is now called Utah. Some fella from Colorado shows up, starts making so called "improvements", right? Before we knew what hit us, the streets are running with latte's. It got so bad that a fella that liked to, you know... smoke a little grass or drink a little ripple. Crow like a rooster, maybe challenge the mayor's son to a gentlemen's duel, was "uncouth, against God." More like bad real estate values.

Vail is going to ruin the ski Industry, by pricing out the common man who only skis one day a year. Whistlers day pass price went up by 40$ in one go what a fuckig joke !!!

Park will be the same though maybe less room for creativity, local events will be reduced. vail has a very good discount on veteran/active service passes. honestly the only noticeable difference for the near future to the patron is it will be a little busier. the move is to bring more of the Seattle market up to whistler. from an employee standpoint it will be more regulated. the model to look at is kirkwood, which has not changed a whole lot since vail bought it.

If they ever buy snowbird I will personally organize an event where everyone wears a yellow jacket outfit to fuck with them. I want at least 100 people involved, preferably more, full trams of yellow jackets, and we'll have walkie talkies too.

Please do it at Stevens pass this year, fuck vail

Just talked with a rep for Steven’s this morning and if you’re local and looking to get a Merchant Pass they haven’t officially decided to keep the program alive. More info should be available once Fall hits.

I also hear the Marketing team is staying the same and that they seem to be listening to locals concerns.

Also full-time employees and not just managers are getting full benefits. 401k, healthcare, etc. So that’s pretty cool in my book.

Just talked with a rep for Steven’s this morning and if you’re local and looking to get a Merchant Pass they haven’t officially decided to keep the program alive. More info should be available once Fall hits.

Also full-time employees and not just managers are getting full benefits. 401k, healthcare, etc. So that’s pretty cool in my book.

Greg: No, but let's go check it out!

Greg and jerry each drive a rental SUV up there with their gaper kids who will want to check out those ramps. Greg and Jerry will pay 150 bucks a family for lunch and 14 a person for beer.

Multiply this scenario by the amount of upper and upper middle class families who buy the epic pass every year and you'll see why people hate vail pretty quick.

I’m new to Washington. Is it a requirement that all full time employees get benefits? I’m pretty sure the way they got around it was the fact we live in capitalist America. Women don’t even get compensatory maternity leave here...

Sick, $9/hr to bump chairs and now I get 401k and full Ben package along with Uncle Sam taxes out of my paycheck. My weekly take home is now $175. I can buy a sandwich and beer and live in a van.

Where I work the seasonal employees can’t work longer than 6 months otherwise the state require they receive benefits. I am guessing a lot of the ski area staff are probably not technically considered full time employees if they aren’t kept on through the summer.

Actually, the main thing stopping me from wanting to ski bum more is lack of health insurance. I can live off of very little, but I cant pay for a torn ACL surgery on a ski bum salary.

*facepalm* that's how... employees are seasonal, I think thats how they used to get around giving employees benefits. Good on Vail for that... but I can't do another season with the crowds.

you do know snowbird is under its own massive corporation right? one that was dumb enough to let one of their leases fall to the wayside by not filing their annual paperwork on time
